Overview of role


About the role


This role will form a major part of our Data Technology and Analytics department. In this role you will be responsible for expanding our use of Data and tech with the activation of our activity , ensuring that our teams have the data available to drive our clients’ business forward.


This is an exciting opportunity to work within our industry-leading Google Practice at MediaCom as we continue to cement our position as a leading data strategy partner for our clients. 


You will be the go-to expert for all digital marketing platforms and associated data sets and an evangelist for our data-led proposition. You will work with key clients on the development and delivery of a data and technology transformation roadmap and supporting our other digital and data specialists in bringing it to life. 


This includes advising on best use of data and tech with particular focus on ensuring that clients are making the most of their first-party data. Application of knowledge of ongoing industry developments will ensure that clients’ tech and data set up is best in class now as well as in the future. 



Reporting of the role


Reporting to the Partner of Data, Advanced Analytics and GCP Solutions, you will work alongside the data and activation teams to develop our approach, proposition and processes for key clients to help drive performance.

Measures of success


In three months, you would have:

  • A solid understanding of the current set up of the technology platforms, analytics, and data sets (1st and 3rd party) of a group of key clients 
  • Initial view on a 12-month roadmap for those clients with key use cases and projects identified 
  • A working relationship with key EssenceMediacom stakeholders 
  • Good knowledge of GroupM/EssenceMediacom tools 


In six months, you would have:

  • Started working on live client 1PD data workstreams with clients i.e Propensity Modeling or Bidding to value.
  • Started developing a new internal products or tool i.e Customer Intent Modelling

In 12 months, you will be:

  • Leading projects and managing team workload i.e Data Agency of Record relationships.
  • Helping to develop the next generation of products/ and services
  • Running internal training sessions to help upskill junior members of the team




Responsibilities of the role


The role for the Data Strategist - Activation across multiple client accounts will cover: 

  • Collaboration on data and technology audit projects for key clients 
  • Development of roadmaps around data and technology adoption for key clients 
  • Assess client data capability to identify gaps and initiate solutions 
  • Work with clients to help them understand the benefits and opportunities of using their first-party data 
  • With support identify new opportunities around data science and machine learning techniques, creating new revenue opportunities for EssenceMediacom 
  • Develop a compelling view on how clients could make the most of their data and technology platforms 
  • Staying abreast of the digital and data evolution and consumer trends - sharing key aspects with clients and colleagues 
  • Develop solutions using key technology partners, such as Google, Meta and Other DSP’s. 
  • Help develop with the data strategy product, both internally and with key partners 
  • Identify data opportunities in channels (PPC, Programmatic etc) and platforms (Google, FB, Amazon) 
  • Have a depth of knowledge about UK data and technology opportunities across the market and especially across the WPP group so as to be an internal expert and go-to person 
  • Be outcome focused - ensuring campaign / activity objectives are clear, achievable and measurable 
  • This will role will involve collaboration and co-ordination with other agency teams at EssenceMediacom – including Web and advanced analytics, planning, channel teams, and our wider Systems Intelligence and development communities. 


What you will need


  • Experience in a performance/audience activation role with an emphasis on data solutions
  • Hands-on experience in platform (DSP, google Ads or Meta)
  • Experience of Python, SQL would be beneficial
  • The ability to manage projects and processes independently
  • Experience of reporting BI tools – such as Tableau, Power BI, Looker
  • A good understanding of business performance metrics
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity
  • Strong Knowledge of web analytics platforms such as Google Analytics, Google Marketing Platform products [JL1]would be beneficial
  • An understanding of Agile methodology would be beneficial
  • A good understanding of business performance metrics
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
  • Excellent attention to detail and a commitment to data integrity
  • The ability to manage projects and processes independently
