Core purpose of the job

As Chief Strategy Officer for EssenceMediacom China, you will be tasked with driving the product and profile of the agency. Ensuring that EssenceMediacom delivers best-in-class strategic plans that push the boundaries of communications will require you to win the trust of senior clients, while raising the capabilities of the planning teams across all categories. Likewise, by elevating the team’s strategic capabilities and winning the trust of senior clients, you will in turn drive EssenceMediacom’s profile across the industry as marketing leading.

Position of the role

You will report to the EssenceMediacom China CEO.

Responsibilities of the role:

Integrated strategy working with digital and traditional planning teams – bridging the gap to build a culture of connected planning

  • Maintain an in-depth knowledge of client businesses and ensure integrated and digital strategies align with brands business objectives and needs. 
  • To plan and develop ideas for “media first” innovations and build capability in strategy. 
  • Update client and internal team on new developments in tech, content, strategy
  • Leverage data (digital and otherwise) for the benefit of overall integrated planning
  • Be bold; defend and stand your ground in terms of ideas internally and externally.
  • Collaborate with core planning teams to ensure optimal integration of solutions in the overall brand plans, ensuring deployment of best-in-class digital implementation across brands. 
  • Grow team’s strategic capabilities and develop sound long term strategic plans for all the key brands. 
  • Trusted advisor not just to the client, but for internal touch-points in the local market. Work closely with the core team on all the reports, digital trainings/workshops. 


Tasks & Measurement


In three months:

  • Confidently articulate client portfolios and business propositions
  • Understand and identify opportunities to influence change to drive better planning across the integrated teams within the agency
  • Build relationships with the key decision makers at client side and within the company
  • Taken solid ownership of the integrated strategic product and built an understanding of how this can best benefit your clients  
  • Defined a clear optimization and innovation roadmap for clients

In six months:

  • Motivated, coached and uplifted client teams to create work that drives significant business impact for the clients.
  • Identified strategic mentees within the client teams and developed dedicated growth plans
  • Be well recognized by key clients by demonstrating thought leadership in terms of strategic planning across categories
  • Aligned key stakeholders internally and client’s side on integrated strategy together with the client leaders from agency.

  • A thought leader, focused on promoting the Wavemaker point of view with the wider industry
  • Experienced at navigating matrix organizations and collaborating across brands
