Financial Reporting Senior Consultant

Financial Reporting Scottsdale, Arizona

Senior Consultant - Financial Reporting Group

We’re looking for a results-focused, growth-oriented professional to support and drive client engagements serving finance and accounting management teams at Fortune 500 companies and beyond. The role provides exceptional client management exposure, team supervisory experience, and mentoring in practice development.

As a Senior Consultant, you’ll apply your experience in accounting and project management to cutting-edge financial reporting topics, interfacing with technical accounting, finance, treasury, controllership, FP&A, SEC reporting and tax teams. You will also participate in training programs to prepare you for the manager role.

If you enjoy problem-solving, are comfortable both excelling in client service and geeking out with technical models, and have a collaborative, client-focused mindset, we would like to meet you and discuss this exciting role.

The Role in a Nutshell

After the initial launch and training period, you will:

  • Lead projects from inception to completion, which requires competencies in the underlying subject-matter (ASC 718, 260, 740, 805, and beyond), data analysis, project management, and client interaction.
  • Review ad hoc client inquiries and provide clear and crisp technical analysis to support their decision-making and internal review. Similarly, you will field questions from clients on EM work product and explain the methodologies and conceptual underpinnings to our day-to-day and C-level contacts.
  • Play a lead client-facing role across a portfolio of clients, gaining invaluable experience in being the face of the firm to clients and being responsible for successful engagement outcomes.
  • Lead client delivery presentations and mentor associates and consultants as they learn the ropes in explaining complex valuation topics to senior audiences.
  • Serve as an internal subject-matter expert by assisting in internal reviews, staff training, and other responsibilities of a senior professional in the practice. Foster a healthy and respectful work environment by encouraging collaboration and giving/receiving constructive feedback.
  • Contribute to thought leadership and other practice development initiatives as part of your ongoing preparation for manager and above roles.
  • Participate in limited client travel (<20%) to meet clients and foster non-transactional relationships.

Our Culture and Method of Doing Business. We are:

  • Zealous about exceptional client service and delighting every client, large or small.
  • Lean and agile—we don’t have manager layers that get to sit back and just talk.
  • Growth-oriented—both in welcoming new clients into the fold and seeing professional development in our outstanding colleagues.
  • Feedback-heavy—because that’s how to unlock growth.
  • Mentoring-rich—we’re not a competitive, eat-what-you-kill culture, and our consultants achieve professional growth via hands-on client experience and feedback from leaders.
  • All about impact—our professionals love the opportunity to make an impact on clients, each other, and the long-run trajectory of the business.
  • Eager to solve clients’ toughest problems—because that’s where the greatest impact is created even though these challenges are riddled with ambiguity and complexity.
  • Devoted to plain-language deliverables that clients find easy to consume and yet rigorous—because clients value our ability to make the complex simple for them.
  • Not a 9-to-5 job—because all the above items just take time, even for very smart and efficient people.

Qualifications & Requirements

  • 3 to 6 years of experience in consulting, corporate accounting, or public accounting in a role that involves financial reporting, financial modeling, economic analysis, or other analytical problem solving.
  • Direct prior experience is NOT required. Our belief is that these areas can be learned quickly. However, if you have experience in any of the following, these are nice-to-haves:
    • Share-based payment accounting (ASC 718 and IFRS 2)
    • Tax reporting (ASC 740)
    • Earnings per share accounting (ASC 260)
    • Forecasting and budgeting for external reporting purposes
    • Proxy disclosure
    • GL systems (e.g., SAP, Oracle, Workday)
    • SOC 1 procedures
  • Strong Excel skills and/or the ability to manage data via analytical tools (e.g., SAS, Access, etc.).
  • Ability to quickly grasp complex accounting, finance, and economics principles and apply them to real-world fact patterns.
  • Exceptional time and stress management skills in light of needing to manage a plate of complex projects with various deadlines, many of which are in flux.
  • Strong detail- and accuracy-orientation across internal/external communication, deliverables, and modeling.
  • Ability and willingness to think critically and solve “out-of-the-box” problems independently.
  • Demonstrated capacity to absorb complex responsibilities as this role segues into a manager position.
  • Background check required.
