POSITION SUMMARY:
The Legal Intern will be exposed to a variety of areas of law, with primary focus on healthcare regulatory, employment, contract, and non-profit corporate law. The Legal Intern will assist all members of the Legal Team and will work closely with the Legal Operations Specialist and Associate General Counsel. The Legal Intern will be responsible for researching specific questions of law, preparing legal memoranda, and internal agreements and documents. Completion in all first year law school courses required. Second-year and third-year law students are eligible to apply.

ESSENTIAL JOB FUNCTIONS:
The Legal Intern will conduct research, review, abstract, and draft contracts, review pleadings for active litigation, assist in producing and redesigning legal team policies and procedures, forms, and other tools, attend meetings, clerical tasks, observing and learning from lawyers and other legal professionals and other work as assigned. Should have good research, writing, and interpersonal skills.  
 
MAJOR AREAS OF RESPONSIBILITY:
The candidate will report to our General Counsel and collaborate with other members of the legal team and other department groups, to help define, create and edit legal documents and contracts to both protect Equitas Health from legal risk and strategize to help us move our business forward. This includes drafting legal memorandums and agreements, conducting legal research and analysis, and preparing responses to information requests received by the department.  
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: Must be a currently enrolled second- or third-year law school student candidate for a Juris Doctorate degree in good academic standing, enrolled in an accredited law school, with a minimum grade point average of 3.3 on 4.0 grading scale, a 4.3 on a 5.0 grading scale, or equivalent grading scale. Must have completed the following first-year law school courses:
 
  • Rules of Civil Procedure
  • Contract Law
  • Property Law
  • Tort Law
  • Constitutional Law
  • Legal Research and Writing
 
OTHER INFORMATION:
Background check and reference checks will be conducted. Hours may vary with a minimum expectation of 40 hours and a maximum expectation of 80 hours per month, including working some evenings and weekends based on workload. Individuals are not considered applicants until they have been asked to visit for an interview and at that time complete an application for employment.
