Location: Walter Reed National Military Medical Center – Bethesda, MD
Contract: Department of Defense – Civilian Federal Role

About the Role

Be part of the team that keeps one of the busiest military Emergency Rooms running smoothly. As a Medical Record Technician – ER, you’ll help ensure the timely, accurate flow of patient information that is critical to emergency care. Your work will directly support physicians, nurses, and other healthcare professionals delivering lifesaving treatment to service members, veterans, and their families.
This position is part of a 24/7 coverage team, offering an exciting opportunity for those who thrive in fast-paced, high-impact healthcare settings.

Key Responsibilities

  • Maintain continuous 24/7 medical record coverage in the ER
  • Process, organize, and manage patient medical records
  • Retrieve test results and integrate documentation into records
  • Input accurate data into CHCS and CIS systems
  • Transport specimens as needed for timely lab processing
  • Support patient admissions and discharges in the emergency department

Minimum Qualifications

  • U.S. Citizenship (required for base and system access)
  • High school diploma or GED
  • 2–3 years of medical record or clerical experience (ER experience preferred)
  • BLS/AED certification (American Heart Association preferred)
  • Proficiency with CHCS, CIS, and military record-keeping standards
  • Strong attention to detail and ability to work in high-pressure situations
