We are hiring up to three (3) full-time temporary (duration is up to 24 months) Labourer 2 positions, working out of Aurum!

EPCOR Water Services is looking for self-motivated and hard-working individuals with previous labourer experience to work outdoors in all weather conditions to operate and maintain the Water Distribution & Transmission (WDT) network in Edmonton, AB. 

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

Under the direction of the WDT Construction Manager and reporting to the Team Lead, the Labourer 2 is accountable for, but not limited to, the following duties:

 

  • Repairing and servicing valves, hydrants, and other water distribution assets
  • Operating system valves and flushing hydrants
  • Working with excavation crews to install or repair water mains, valves, hydrants, services, and related infrastructure
  • Performing a variety of labour duties related to the water distribution system
  • Carrying out daytoday operational duties typical of a water and wastewater utility
  • Taking water samples as required
  • Backfilling and restoring work sites, including placement of black dirt or concrete
  • Loading vehicles with required tools and materials and driving between job sites
  • Updating job statuses, safety documentation, and safe work plans using computerized systems
  • Maintaining a strong focus on safety and actively supporting a zeroinjury culture
  • Completing other related duties as assigned

 

What’s Required to Be Successful

 

The successful candidate will meet the following qualifications and competencies:

 

  • Education & Certification
    • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent level of secondary education
      • Education verification is a condition of employment
    • Alberta Environment Water Distribution Certification – Level 1 is considered an asset
    • Candidates without this certification must obtain Level 1 within 24 months of hire
    • Signedoff competencies to work on Water Distribution & Transmission (WDT) Construction Crews are an asset
  • Experience
    • Minimum of 1 year of related labour experience
    • Experience in WDT Construction would be considered an asset
  • Licensing & Driving Requirements
    • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires:
    • A valid Class 5 Alberta Operator’s Licence
    • Six (6) demerits or fewer at the time of hire
    • A 5year commercial driver abstract
    • Review of prior unsafe driving infractions, which may result in nonselection regardless of current demerits
    • GDL licence holders may be considered, provided they have:
      • Three (3) demerits or fewer, and
      • A satisfactory driving behaviour review

Wage: starting at 28.18 per hour

  • Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement.

 

Hours of work: 10 hours per day, 4 days per week. Note: The selected candidates may be required to work overtime and perform job duties at work locations both within and outside the boundaries of the City of Edmonton.
