We are hiring a Full-Time Permanent Senior Quality Engineer position working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

As the Senior Quality Engineer, Transmission, you are responsible for overseeing and enhancing the quality management systems related to EPCOR Distribution and Transmission Inc. (EDTI) Transmission. You will use your Engineering expertise to develop quality management strategies, develop project quality plans and documentation, ensure compliance with internal company policies and industry standards, oversee investigations into quality issues, and implement corrective and preventative actions. You will also lead continuous improvement initiatives. You will oversee implementation and execution of project quality plans to meet business goals. Your relationship and interpersonal skills allow you to manage external and internal relationships.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Providing input to the Transmission quality management plans and directions, while ensuring appropriate alignment with other areas of EPCOR.
  • Identifying the necessary requirements for the provision of professional development, standards and guidelines literature, and tools necessary to carry out quality management functions in alignment with ISO 9001.
  • Ensuring optimal deliverables through effective cross-functional accountability and authority practices (when applicable).
  • Accountable for the design and implementation of the Quality Management System (QMS) and continuous improvement of the system, while ensuring compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements and ensure mitigation of risks.
  • Developing and implementing a Project Quality Management Plan template and other deliverables aligning to the QMS.
  • Participating in development and review of project planning, including development of inspection and test plans, hold points and witness points for all work with suppliers and internal groups.
  • Conducting regular internal audits and inspections to assess the effectiveness of the QMS and identify areas for improvement.
  • Leading investigations into quality issues, perform root cause analysis, and implement corrective and preventative actions for Transmission projects.
  • Maintaining comprehensive documentation of quality management activities, including audit reports, inspection records, non-conformance reports and corrective action plans for projects.
  • Providing training and support to staff on quality management principles, procedures, and best practices.

What’s required to be successful

  • Professional Engineer with Bachelor of Science in Electrical, Mechanical, Civil or Structural Engineering, or a Professional Licensee registered with APEGA
  • 10+ years of experience successfully working on medium to large scale projects in an industrial, utility or process environment
  • Strong safety focus with extensive safety training and qualifications
  • 5+ years of experience leading on-site quality management for construction projects 
  • Experience in the development and implementation of a quality management system
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office products, P6 and quality management systems.
  • Knowledge of a wide range of construction materials, methods, and techniques
  • Quality Management certifications (ISO 9001 or Six Sigma) are highly desirable
  • Knowledge of Alberta electrical transmission industry standards, including the Alberta Electric Utilities Code
  • Understanding of Alberta Building Codes and standards
  • Awareness of City of Edmonton codes and standards
  • Construction leadership

 

As the successful Senior Quality Engineer, you possess creative problem solving which equips you with the ability to manage a wide variety of issues simultaneously. Your leadership skills allow you to provide guidance to team members and adapt to various styles of communication. These relationship skills are further demonstrated by your ability to develop, nurture and manage stakeholder relationships.

 

As the Senior Quality Engineer, you also have strong written and verbal communication. You can clearly communicate technical or complex issues in a clear and succinct way. This is evident in your technical report writing and the skill to help others understand highly complex project and technical issues. Your expertise is evident as you successfully follow project quality management processes form inception to completion. You are a decision maker, communicator and team player.
