Equipment Operator 3 – WWC – Linear Asset Maintenance

What You’ll Be Doing

 

Join our WWC Inspections team and play a key role in maintaining Edmonton’s wastewater collection infrastructure. As an Equipment Operator 3, you will operate specialized sewer inspection equipment, lead field activities, and ensure work is completed safely, efficiently, and to EPCOR standards. This is a hands-on role requiring strong technical expertise, sound judgment, and the ability to work independently in the field.


Key Responsibilities

 

Reporting to a Team Leader, your responsibilities will include, but are not limited to, the following:

 

Equipment Operation & Maintenance

  • Operate and maintain sewer inspection equipment including the Mainline Televising Vehicle (MTV) / CCTV Camera Unit, IBAK Panorama, IBAK Cutter, and other related tools used to inspect, maintain, and clean wastewater collection systems
  • Perform daily equipment inspections, lubrication, troubleshooting, and minor maintenance
  • Demonstrate thorough knowledge of equipment, tools, materials, and wastewater collection systems

Leadership & Team Support

  • Lead and direct labourers assigned to inspection activities
  • Train and mentor operators and labourers in the safe operation and maintenance of equipment
  • Collaborate with the System Maintenance team to support flushing operations

Safety, Compliance & Field Operations

  • Set up worksites using proper barricading and traffic control procedures
  • Ensure all work complies with EPCOR’s Environmental Management System (ISO 14001) and Occupational Health & Safety requirements
  • Make independent, informed field decisions based on changing operational conditions

Documentation & Reporting

  • Complete and create daily timesheets, work orders, call requests, safe work plans, and operator logbooks
  • Inspect assets and report deficiencies using IVARA, GeoFit, and through direct communication with the Team Leader
  • Maintain project completion maps, prepare inspection reports, and provide input to CSTS and other stakeholders

Education & Certification

  • High school diploma, GED, or equivalent level of secondary education
    Transcripts may be requested during the interview process
  • Alberta Environment Wastewater Collection Certification (asset)
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Driver’s License and ability to qualify for an EPCOR driver’s permit
    • No more than 6 demerits at the time of hire
    • Please note: prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours may result in non-selection, regardless of current demerits
    • A current driver’s abstract may be requested if one is not already on file
  • PACP Certification
    • Candidates without this certification must obtain it within 12 months of appointment

Experience

  • Minimum 1 year operating MTV/CCTV Camera Units
  • 3+ years of experience working in Wastewater Collection Systems or Water Systems

Skills & Knowledge

  • Willingness to complete all required Water Services training
  • Intermediate computer skills, including:
    • IVARA
    • GeoFit
    • SWP App
    • Microsoft Office (Word, Outlook, Excel)
  • Strong understanding of safe equipment operation practices
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, including note-taking and report writing
  • Proven ability to troubleshoot and resolve operational system issues
  • Demonstrated ability to operate equipment safely and in compliance with regulations
