EPCOR Water Services (EWS) group has a full-time permanent opportunity for a Plumber/Gasfitter to join the Water Treatment Plants (WTP) team in Edmonton, AB. Although you will be based at the E.L. Smith Treatment Plant travel to the Rossdale Treatment Plant location will be required.

In the Plumber/Gasfitter role you will be accountable for the Plumber and Gas Fitting functions at Edmonton Water Treatment Plants and Reservoirs. This includes achieving plant equipment reliability through effective work processes and workflows in a safe work environment while meeting the Edmonton Water Treatment Plant’s approval to operate with time spans of up to 3 months.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

Reporting to the Manager, WTP Maintenance Process, in the Plumber/Gasfitter role you are accountable for, but not limited to:

 

  • Establishing strategic initiatives in support of continuous improvement of the Plumbing and Gasfitting areas of the WTPs.
  • Carrying out predictive, preventative, corrective and improvement maintenance on Building/Facility equipment, water services, sanitary drainage, gas service installations and gas-fired appliances at the WTPs to ensure reliability of plant equipment and infrastructure.
  • Supporting the Plumbing and Gasfitting area in the Maintenance budget process.
  • Participating in required training components to ensure safe, efficient and reliable water processes are being met.
  • Developing and implementing safe work plans, hazard assessments and tailgate talks to ensure worker safety within the WTPs.
  • Developing and establishing work standards and procedures for the Plumber and Gasfitter component of the WTPs.
  • Providing technical support for plant modifications and capital program.

What’s required to be successful

 

Qualifications, experience and behaviours you will possess are:

 

  • Grade 12 diploma (GED or equivalent level of secondary education).
  • Possess valid Alberta Journeyman Plumber Certificate and an Alberta Gasfitter Certificate.
    •     If you have received your certification from outside of Alberta, Red Seal Certification will be required.
  • Preference for Power Engineering 4th Class certificate – minimum.
  • Experience that includes:
    • Minimum of 3 years progressively responsible experience at a Journeyman level in an Industrial working facility – preference is given to Water/Wastewater facility experience.
    • Plumbing and Gas fitting.
    • Extensive background with operating a variety of mechanical equipment and gas fired equipment.
  • Demonstrable ability to:
    • Comprehend safety/building codes related to Plumbing, Gas Fitting and preferably Power Engineering.
    • Understand and decipher drawings, schematics, etc.
  • Must have a good mechanical aptitude.
  • Good understanding of computer software.
  • Valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operators License.
    •     Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver's permit
    •     A Driver Abstract (5yr. Commercial type) may be required
    •     Limited to 6 demerits or less
  • Good physical health and ability to meet the physical demands required of this position, which includes lifting/carrying weights up to 20kg (45lbs) on a daily basis. Medical testing may be required.

  • Final Wage and Step will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the CA that may be found online.
