What you’ll be responsible for
- Perform basic laboratory analyses such as turbidity, chlorine residual, temperature, pH, and total suspended solids under supervision
- Gain exposure to more advanced laboratory analyses including chemical oxygen demand, biochemical oxygen demand, total trihalomethanes (TTHM), total and dissolved carbon, and fecal coliform
- Learn and assist with process control laboratory tests such as settled volume index, mixed liquor suspended solids, percent solids concentration, and microscopic examinations
- Collect, handle, and transport water and wastewater samples within treatment facilities following established safety and quality procedures
- Maintain laboratory records and documentation related to quality assurance, quality control, and laboratory data
- Support data entry and reporting using computer systems and established databases
- Work collaboratively with laboratory staff, plant operators, and mentors to support daily operations
- Follow all safety protocols and demonstrate safe laboratory and field practices
- Support other projects and responsibilities as requested
What’s required to be successful
- A technical, environmental, chemistry, biology, or water‑related degree is preferred
- Basic understanding of laboratory practices and equipment, or willingness to learn
- Basic computer skills, including Microsoft Office applications
- Strong attention to detail and commitment to accurate data and documentation
- Ability to work collaboratively with team members and follow direction from mentors
- Effective verbal and written communication skills
- Dependability, professionalism, and a desire to develop hands‑on technical skills
