We are hiring one (1) Full Time, Permanent Senior Advisor, Contractor Management position working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

This opportunity is open to Internal and external candidates.

 

The Senior Advisor, Contractor Management supports EPCOR’s vision to be a company where safety matters most and demonstrates the commitment to put safety first in everything we do.

 

The Senior Advisor, Contractor Management is accountable for collaboratively liaising with internal and external customers to support in managing operational risk and achieving strategic H&S goals. This includes working with management, project managers, foremen, and contractors to ensure alignment with EPCOR’s Contractor Management Program. Some duties include assisting in pre-hire and post work evaluations, reviewing hazard assessments, incident investigations, assessing compliance of field work practices to applicable legislation and performance measures. This includes the development, implementation, maintenance and governance of H&S programs and achieving required outcomes.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

  • Supporting the Manager, Shared Services Health and Safety on strategic work plans, initiatives, goals, and statistical targets and directions. This will include:
    • Participating in the development of H&S performance measures with respect to contractors and interpreting results, and
    • Monitoring contractor H&S performance, including tracking monthly contractor statistics and reporting to BU and corporate.
  • Facilitating the implementation, administration, and compliance of the EPCOR Contractor Safety Management Program.
  • Providing H&S expertise in areas of work observations, workplace inspections, risk assessments, hazard analysis, job planning, contractor and subcontractor management, public safety, and incident investigation.
  • Facilitating H&S knowledge and skill development, and the understanding of H&S responsibilities and obligations.
  • Developing, maintaining, reviewing, and updating EPCOR’s Contractor Safety Management Program. Identifying H&S Program deficiencies and developing action plans to address these deficiencies.
  • Providing interpretation and application of H&S rules, regulations and legislation to management, employees and Health and Safety Committees.
  • Developing criteria for monitoring H&S measures, and interpreting and recommending improvements to H&S management and risk minimization.
  • Creating and reviewing new H&S training courses and protocols/procedures. 
  • Networking with industry peers to ascertain potential best practice for adoption into EPCOR practice and procedures.
  • Support investigations related to major contractor incidents.

What’s required to be success:

 

  • Experience participating in a multi-functional team
  • In good standing; Designation with the Board of Canadian Registered Safety Professionals (CRSP) or Board of Certified Safety Professionals (CSP) is considered an asset.
  • 8+ years directly related experience in a construction/trades/project management environment is required. Experience includes:
    • Conducting incident investigations, root cause analysis and audits,
    • Contractor, Subcontractor, and Prime Contractor Management,
    • Risk analysis and the development of mitigation strategies.
  • Related post-secondary (health & safety, commerce, etc) considered an asset.
  • Experience conducting incident investigations, and creating/delivering training materials.
  • Experience with project management, procurement, risk analysis, developing mitigation strategies, inspecting worksites, Contractor and Prime Contractor Management.
  • Strong understanding of Health and Safety regulatory requirements, specifically contractor and Prime Contractor legislation.
  • Strong understanding of database programs such as Avetta, ISNetworld, ComplyWorks or CQN, along with knowledge of contractor pre-qualification process.
  • Understanding specific business drivers and influence; facilitates and participates in the development and implementation of health & safety plans, goals and objectives.
  • Understanding of how H&S integrates with other functions and operational areas within an organization.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate and manage multiple requests, projects and job demands with a wide variety of key stakeholders.
  • Ability to develop H&S performance measures, interpret results and coach on how to improve performance.
  • Strong customer service skills.
  • Exceptional attention to detail and ability to perform a range of work in a complex and non-routine environment.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills.
  • Post-Secondary Education in Health and Safety is an asset.
