We are hiring one (1) full-time permanent and one (1) full-time temporary Power Lineman 3 positions working out of Edmonton, AB. These opportunities are open to internal and external applicants. Current EPCOR Employees please ensure that you are using your “@epcor.com” email address.

 

We are looking to add two strong team players to EPCOR Electricity’s Customer Connections Operations team. As a Power Lineman 3, you will be accountable for coaching, leading and working with trades and non-trades personnel engaged in constructing, maintaining and repairing Distribution & Transmission power lines and electrical equipment up to and including 500 kV.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Working on energized aerial systems (120-25,000 volts) using rubber glove and other live line techniques.
  • Constructing, repairing and maintaining new and existing transmission and distribution aerial and underground systems, poles, and towers up to 500kV.
  • Energization of both aerial and underground services from the Land Servicing and Customer Engineering Services departments.
  • Working at heights.
  • Inspecting and testing power lines and cables.
  • Training apprentices and supervising non-trades personnel.
  • Splicing, soldering and insulating conductors and wiring.
  • Responding to emergency conditions and environmental hazards.
  • Adhering to safety practices and procedures.
  • Partaking in rotations within EPCOR to other disciplines and parts of the Trade.

 

What’s required to be successful

  • High school Diploma, GED or equivalent level of secondary education.
  • Powerline Technician (PLT) Journeyman Certificate.
  • Attending and passing EPCOR’s switching school to fulfill role requirements.
  • 3+ years of experience at a Journeyman level.
  • Thorough working knowledge of protective grounding, climbing poles with belt and spurs, aerial bucket/hydraulic equipment, tension stringing devices and electrical safe work practices.
  • Experience with administrative duties such as writing and basic computer skills.
  • Class 1 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License or ability to obtain it within three months.
  • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License.
    • Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file).
    • A Driver Abstract (5 year commercial type) will be required.
  • Ability to read technical prints and schematics.
  • Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons. 
  • Ability to develop and improve processes and procedures.
  • Strong analytical thinking and written and verbal communication combined with planning and organizational skills.
  • Ability and interest to coach, lead and empower others and work effectively in a team.
  • Proven attention to detail and technical expertise.
  • The candidates who also demonstrate the following will be given preference in the selection process:
    • Ensuring work is done in a safe, efficient and cost effective manner and in accordance with relevant legislation, corporate policies, procedures and guidelines.
    • Knowledge and experience in aerial and underground distribution systems, as well as in switching.
    • Experience operating Trade related equipment.

 

Additionally, you have the ability to handle new or emergency situations in a logical and reasoned manner. You are a team player who conducts yourself in a professional manner at all times. Your communication skills allow you to build relationships with a variety of audiences, including customers. You are detail oriented, have highly developed judgment and possess problem solving skills. You understand that health, safety and environment are integral to EPCOR's work, and strive to maintain a zero injury organizational culture. As such, you possess a high level of safety awareness and demonstrate safe work practices at all times. Candidates will be required to actively participate in safety and other job-related training.
