We are hiring one (1) Temporary Full Time, Senior Advisor, Occupational Injury for up to 11 months working out of Edmonton, AB.

The Senior Advisor, Occupational Injury is accountable for assessing operational risk related to occupational hygiene as well as health and wellness.  This includes facilitating the management of occupational injuries and providing leadership and consultative support that will enable the development and implementation of best practice occupational health and wellness programs and strategies. 

 

This role is accountable to the Manager, Health & Safety Shared Services, in collaboration with Shared Services Specialist - Occupational Hygienist, H&S Advisors, Corporate Health, Safety & Environment and Technical Training to support operations in achieving the workplace health, wellness and safety goals.

What you’d be responsible for

 

  • Providing initial physical and psychological injury management support which can include prioritizing first aid; self-care strategies where appropriate, triage support for medical assessment/OIS clinics and/or other treatment and rehabilitation resources, health teaching where applicable.
  • Providing timely contact with injured/ill workers and regular communication throughout to advise, facilitate or coordinate on case management to employees, HS Advisors, Managers, unions, HR and Ability Management for work-related ill or injured workers (WCB) especially when case management files cross over between WCB, STD and LTD. 
  • Represent the employer to liaise with WCB regarding claims management adjudication, claims appeals, requests for reviews, which includes psychological safety claims. Providing employer strategies to help address including active participation in the Partnership in Injury Reduction Program.
  • Facilitating returns to work, including complex workplace issues as well as accommodations, job demands analysis and returns to work with employees, managers, HR, union and other stakeholders as required.
  • Managing Occupational health & wellness strategy items including, but not  limited to, pre-employment testing, medical surveillance for exposures (lead, asbestos, silica, noise, indoor air quality, chemical, biological and radiation, etc.), ergonomics, rehab strategies, case management and health protection activities.
  • Ensuring on-going effective internal and external partnerships with EPCOR Water, Electricity, and Commercial Services H&S group, Human Resources, Legal, unions, regulatory bodies, and other Manager/Senior Manager positions at EPCOR to facilitate injury management and occupational health and wellness initiatives.
  • Identifying, administering and monitoring health surveillance aspects associated with occupational health and hygiene risk, including but not limited to PFT, chest x-rays, audiograms, biological monitoring, and respiratory fit testing as per Corporate protocols.
  • Providing subject matter expertise support for incident investigations and business compliance to standards.
  • Participating with managers andHR on various employee issues including dispute resolutions process – grievances and formal reviews, as well as undue hardship challenges, and disciplinary challenges when employees do not comply with processes.
  • Supporting management with conflict resolution as it relates to workplace health issues by providing legislation interpretation, WCB liaison, providing information related to case precedence, Electricity Canada injury classification, and detailed notes related to employee cases. 

 

What’s required to be successful

 

  • Bachelors Degree (course work and or accreditation in Occupational Health, Disability Management, Human Resources, Vocational Rehab or related health discipline) is required.
  • Occupational Health Nursing (OHN) certificate considered an asset.
  • Experience in Occupational Health, workplace reporting, insurance/premiums, and employer resources/responsibilities.
  • Knowledge/experience with project management, risk analysis and the development of mitigation strategies (JDA, ergonomics assessments, case management, and procedure/standard development and rollout).
  • Understanding of Electricity Canada (CEA) injury reporting requirements/categories considered an asset.
  • Ability to develop, coordinate and manage multiple requests, projects and job demands with a wide variety of key stakeholders.
  • Experience building/maintaining strong partnerships with internal partners: unions, Human Resources, business units, etc.
  • Exceptional verbal and written communication skills to express concepts and technical information effectively to diverse audiences.
  • Experience participating in a multi-functional team.
