We are hiring one full time, permanent Senior Analyst, Taxation position working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

The Senior Analyst, Taxation will be a key member of the EPCOR Utilities Inc. tax team. The main responsibilities of this role include ensuring accurate and timely preparation of Canadian and United States income tax returns, preparation of Canadian and United States tax provision working papers, and the administration of the Canadian property tax process.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Maintain compliance with new and existing tax laws and regulations and the timely and accurate recording of all tax related liabilities and expense
  • Preparation of Canadian and United States quarterly and year-end tax provisions, along with supporting working papers
  • Ensure the timely and accurate preparation and submission of all forms of tax filings, returns, remittances, payments or instalments
  • Administration of Canadian property tax process, including the timely and accurate preparation and submission of linear tax information, timely payment of all business, property, and linear tax liabilities and the preparation of property tax forecasts
  • Develop a thorough understanding of EPCOR Utilities Inc.’s operations and financial process to collect, extract and understand data and information relevant for tax purposes
  • Research small to moderately complex income tax issues
  • Provide support for Canadian external and internal audits, including the preparation of thorough and complete supporting documentation
  • Correspond with Federal and Provincial tax authorities regarding small to moderately complex income tax issues
  • Identify and recommend opportunities for process improvement and implement as directed

What’s required to be successful

  • Successful completion of a 4 year post-secondary Degree(or Equivalent) in Business, Finance or Accounting
  • 4-6 years of progressively responsible experience related to financial reporting, accounting and/or tax compliance; with a minimum of 2 years of tax compliance experience
  • Accounting designation such as CPA, CA, CGA, or CMA required
  • Work experience preparing corporate income tax returns
  • Working knowledge of Canadian and United States income tax legislation
  • Working knowledge of accounting and reporting standards issued by authoritative bodies as they relate to the tax provision
  • Ability to apply relevant knowledge and technical skills to support financial reporting by ensuring  practices, policies and accounting standards
  • Working towards or completion of the CPA Canada In-Depth GST/HST Course and/or CPA Canada In-Depth Tax Course is an asset
  • Demonstrated capability to apply the relevant knowledge and technical skills to adhere to tax legislation and financial policies
  • Ability to successfully apply the relevant knowledge to ensure the timely and accurate preparation and submission of tax filings, returns, remittances, payments and instalments
  • Ability to draw on knowledge and experience base to address small to moderately complex taxation related problems or opportunities
  • Advanced Microsoft Office skills, specifically in Excel
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly present information to a variety of audiences in both formal and informal settings

Wage: Starting at $50.95 per hour (Final wage placement will be determined at the time of selection and is based on a combination of factors as outlined in the Collective Agreement)

Hours of work: 75 hours biweekly
