We are hiring one (1) permanent full time Manager, Engineering Support Services position working out of Rossdale Water Treatment Plant in Edmonton, AB.

 

The Manager, Engineering Support Services is to manage a team of engineers and engineering technologists that provide various engineering support services including 3rd party design review, asset inspection coordination, pipe condition monitoring and assessment, hydraulic modelling assessment, asset protection and standards update. This team provides engineering support services for both water and wastewater infrastructure. The team will collaborate with external agencies such as the City of Edmonton and deliver required relocation work in accordance to the franchise agreement. In addition, this team will manage the integrated ULA variance committee’s process and the new MOC streams on linear infrastructure in both water and wastewater systems.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

  • Lead team to provide review submission from external parties such as the City of Edmonton:
    • Review impacts on proposed work to both water and wastewater infrastructure.
    • Ensure design are conforming to the latest applicable Design and Construction Standards.
    • Coordinate with subject matter experts to obtain relevant inputs.
    • Consolidate all relevant inputs and provide feedback to the external party that submits the review request.
  • Provide periodic review on the 3rd party engineering review process and develop plan to address any gaps in engagement.
  • Develop appropriate inspection program and coordinate both internal and external resources to inspect the various water and wastewater linear assets.
  • Lead the IAT to undertake wastewater pipe condition assessment work including:
    • Track progress on inspection program.
    • Upload inspection media to the appropriate platform.
    • Conduct asset condition assessment based on applicable industry standards.
    • Identify locations for rehabilitation based on established risk prioritization method to the various capital programs.
    • Provide assessment reports to various stakeholders.
  • Manage the critical valves list in WDT and communicate with various stakeholders on the needs to maintain the list.
  • Manage inquiries relating to agreements that have asset protection implications such as crossing agreements by:
    • Review and manage all crossing agreement requests for water and wastewater infrastructure systems.
    • Initiate requests for crossing agreements based on requests from operational areas and capital projects.
  • Engage with subject matter experts to discuss implications on complicated crossing requests as needed.
  • Lead team to provide engineering design and support services on relocation work for WDT and WWC systems based on requests from City of Edmonton including:
    • Support OWP in developing conceptual alternatives to relocation requests.
    • Liaise with PM to deliver require design work including IFT and IFC documents.
    • Complete EPIC list and update them as the relocation project progress.
    • Coordinate and obtain applicable permits for work execution.
    • Support relocation construction activities as required.
  • Participate in post relocation project lesson learned.
  • Lead the team in conducting regular update to Volume 3 (Drainage) and Volume 4 (Water).
  • Coordinate with subject matter experts to evaluate impacts to water and wastewater infrastructure on the proposed changes in the standards.
  • Liaise with the City of Edmonton and other appropriate external parties to obtain feedback on the proposed changes to the standards.
  • Work with the City of Edmonton to publish approved changes to the standards.
  • Communicate the changes in the standards to both internal and external parties.
  • Maintain the updated approved product list for both water and wastewater infrastructure and explore integration opportunities by:
    • Review approved product in both water and wastewater systems and identify common products.
    • Review the current process with subject matter experts and discuss integration opportunities.
    • Coordinate with subject matter experts to evaluate effectiveness and other impacts to water and wastewater infrastructure on using the proposed new product.
    • Liaise with suppliers and manufacturers who submit new products for approval to use in the water and wastewater system.
    • Communicate the status of the new product to both internal and external parties.

What’s required to be successful

 

  • Degree in engineering.
  • Registration with APEGA as a Professional Engineer.
  • A minimum of eight (8) years of progressively responsible professional engineering experience in planning, design, construction and operations in water and wastewater industry.
  • Familiarization with APEGA practices and rules.
  • Experience in engineering teams in water, wastewater or related/relevant industries
  • Experience with engineering design, project management and construction of water/wastewater Knowledge of engineering principles and standard practices related to design, planning and construction.
  • Ability to think out of the box and offer new design solutions using unconventional approaches and new technology .
  • Ability to collaborate with diverse stakeholders and understand basic principles of public engagement and communication process.
