EPCOR’s Legal Team is welcoming applications for an Advisor, Legal Claims & Reporting (Full-Time Temporary, up to 15 months) position based in Edmonton, Alberta.

As the Advisor, Legal Claims & Reporting, you’re stepping into a dynamic role that blends providing timely litigation support, claims coordination, investigative reporting and administrative support responsibilities. You’ll become a trusted partner to litigation lawyers, support claims processes, manage the documentation and response to Access to Information Program (ATIP) requests with guidance from the Privacy Officer, and prepare reports tied to Litigation and Ethics and Respectful Workplace investigations.

What you’d be responsible for

 

Reporting to the Senior Managing Counsel, Regulatory & Litigation, you’re taking ownership of a wide range of responsibilities that keep EPCOR’s legal operations running effectively and efficiently:

 

Legal Claims Support & Coordination

  • Researching and investigating facts and records related to insurance claims and litigation events in collaboration with legal counsel and business units.
  • Drafting and revising legal documents and correspondence.
  • Leading the collection and retention of relevant documents for claims and litigation files, including by acting as the primary liaison between the business units and legal counsel (internal or external) to ensure complete records are provided.
  • Coordinating logistics for witness questioning and attending litigation meetings to support counsel.
  • Maintaining and managing limitation dates and diarizing litigation files.
  • Coordinating payment of settlement funds and opening litigation files with associated purchase orders.
  • Providing administrative support as required to litigation lawyers.

 

Reporting

  • Preparing litigation reports and summaries for internal dissemination.
  • Collaborating with internal legal counsel and the Ethics Officer to prepare quarterly reports for the Senior Vice President, Sustainability, General Counsel & Corporate Secretary.
  • Maintaining the internal litigation database by routinely updating claims and proactively engaging responsible lawyers for input.

 

Access to Information Program (ATIP) Management

  • Acting as the primary contact for all ATIP inquiries and requests.
  • Monitoring, reviewing, and tracking ATIP requests in a database.
  • Ensuring timely responses in accordance with legal and policy requirements.
  • Collaborating with business units, legal counsel, and adjustors to gather relevant documentation.

 

 

What’s required to be successful

 

The successful candidate will possess the following qualifications, experience and behaviours:

 

Required (Must Haves):

  • Diploma or certificate in the legal field or related discipline.
  • 3+ years of hands-on experience in litigation, claims management and/or privacy.
  • Proficient in Microsoft Office and Adobe.
  • Flexible and adaptable to changing priorities
  • A strong commitment to discretion when handling confidential information.
  • Exceptional organizational skills and attention to detail, including strong data processing and proofreading abilities.
  • Proactive mindset with a willingness to take initiative and follow up to ensure timelines and deliverables are met.
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with the confidence to keep tasks on track and stakeholders aligned.
  • Brings an optimistic attitude and collaborative mindset to contribute to EPCOR Legal’s supportive and high-performing team.
