EPCOR currently has a fulltime, temporary Summer Student position as a Water Treatment Technician in training at the Britannia Mine Water Treatment Facility at our Britannia Beach site in British Columbia. This position is well suited to individuals who have excellent technical skills; a demonstrated ability to work co-operatively within a team and are safety focused in everything they do. The Summer Student will be gaining experience as a Water Treatment Operator for up to 4 months. 

For the successful candidates there is a housing allowance program that is paid out bi-weekly to assist with off-setting the cost of living in the area.

We serve more than 85 communities and industrial sites in B.C., Alberta and Saskatchewan, making sure that the water exceeds public health, environmental and industrial requirements.

 

What you’d be responsible for

 

Accountable to the Lead Hand Operator in the Co-op Student role your key responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Ensuring the safe operation of plant equipment, setting, and monitoring chemical feed rates.
  • Operating the distribution and process computers and performing established water quality tests.
  • Updating and maintaining documentation and logs pertaining to tests and processes.
  • Correcting minor operating problems and performing other related duties as required and/or assigned.
  • Health and safety are integral to EPCOR's work, and we strive to maintain a zero-injury organizational culture.
  • As such, the successful candidate must have a demonstrated history of safety awareness and a safe work record to date.

 

What’s required to be successful

 

  • High school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education).
  • Currently enrolled in a Water and Wastewater Technician program or an equivalent program.
  • Ability to qualify for and maintain an EPCOR driver’s permit, which requires a valid Class 5 Alberta Motor Vehicle Operator's License
    • Limited to 6 demerits or less at date of hire (prior infractions for unsafe driving behaviours will be evaluated and considered for non-selection regardless of current demerits on file).
    • A Driver Abstract (5-year commercial type) will be required.
    • Drivers with a GDL class may be considered (limited to 3 demerits and pending driving behavior review referenced above).
  • Ability to withstand strenuous physical activity inherent to the work performed, as well as to function effectively outside under a variety of weather conditions and through all seasons. 
    • Please note that due to the nature of this position you will be required to wear a ½ mask respirator for extended periods on a daily basis.
  • Working knowledge of Microsoft Office Excel, Word and Outlook.

The successful candidates will possess excellent written and verbal communication skills and demonstrate strong initiative. Our best candidates will also possess developed analytical and troubleshooting skills, as well as the ability to work effectively both independently and within a team dynamic. For success in this role, the successful applicants' track record must demonstrate a strong results orientation and a commitment to service.
