We are hiring a Full Time Permanent Engineer in Training (EIT), Integrated Planning position working out of Edmonton, AB.

 

As the Engineer in Training (EIT), Integrated Planning, you are responsible for the planning of the EPCOR Distribution and Transmission Inc. (EDTI) electric distribution system and the safe and optimal performance of distribution assets. This includes the identification of system and asset deficiencies, ensuring proper connections of newer technologies to the grid, balance asset inspection cycles, repair and maintenance prioritization, and the development of programs that optimize costs, performance and risk exposure. You will use your communication skills to maintain successful internal and external stakeholder relationships, while ensuring the success of projects in the distribution system within their assigned portfolio.

 

As the successful EIT, you are a team player; you lead and participate in group discussions and team activities. You are a problem solver, communicator, and learner. You are comfortable using a variety of programs (e.g. PowerBI) and take ownership of your work.

 

This position may be eligible for EPCOR’s hybrid work program. Open to internal and external applications.

What you’d be responsible for

  • Performing engineering studies on EDTI’s electric distribution system, including fault calculations, load flow analysis, protection coordination and arc flash studies
  • Reviewing customer connection applications and complete the necessary engineering studies for the interconnection of these resources into EDTI’s electric distribution system
  • Liaising with EDTI’s Customer Connections group, Franchise Engineering, Capital Engineering, Downtown Engineering, and associated external stakeholders in the timely execution of customer connections and any associated changes to the distribution system
  • Identifying and recommending improvement and efficiency initiatives
  • Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics. Establishing, monitoring, measuring and reporting performance metrics optimizing the life cycle of distribution assets within assigned portfolio through regular inspection, maintenance and repair of these assets.
  • Providing integrated planning insights to internal stakeholders
  • Developing and maintaining good working relationships with external stakeholders including the City of Edmonton, the Alberta Electric System Operator, the Alberta Utilities Commission and industry working groups
  • Assisting in the development of distribution design philosophies, guidelines, processes and criteria, as required under changing system/industry practices and in alignment with the organizational strategic plan
  • Providing input into the annual budgeting process with respect to projects initiated within assigned portfolio
  • Preparing the necessary documentation and responses in support of regulatory filings, information requests, and inquiries

What’s required to be successful

  • A Bachelor of Science in Electrical Engineering or related discipline.
  • Registered Engineer in Training with APEGA.
  • 1+ years of experience working in the engineering field. Experience in a utility environment would be considered an asset.
  • Basic knowledge and understanding of electric power systems.
  • Understanding of regulatory concepts as related to Distribution considered an asset.
  • Developed analytical skills related to engineering systems.
  • Knowledge of distribution system planning concepts.
  • Understanding of asset management principles considered an asset.
  • Experience working with Data Analytics and large data sets. Direct experience with PowerBI and Python considered an asset.
  • Experience with simulation software for load flow, power quality and short circuit analysis.
  • Experience with GIS and asset management performance software.
  • Apply recognized and generally accepted good engineering practice (e.g. codes & standards)
  • Extensive experience and capability with MS Office Suite
