Are you passionate about supporting employee well-being and making a meaningful impact in the workplace? EPCOR’s Benefits, Disabilities & Wellness team is hiring a full-time permanent Advisor, Benefits & Leaves position working out of Edmonton, AB.
This is a specialized role ideal for professionals with direct and demonstrable experience in disability case management, leave administration, and wellness program delivery coupled with an understanding of disability management frameworks within regulated or complex environments.
As the Leaves & Benefits Advisor, you are primarily responsible for administering employee leaves of absence (maternity/parental/compassionate) and administering low-complexity personal illness or injury cases. You’ll provide thoughtful advice, support, and solutions to employees and leaders, ensuring a smooth and supportive experience during times of leave or transition. Additionally, you’ll support the Disabilities Management and Benefits teams by delivering a wide range of administrative and advisory services related to employee leaves, benefits, savings plans, and wellness programs across EPCOR Canada.

What you’d be responsible for
- Administering and coordinating employee leaves of absence, including eligibility, contractual requirements, time coding and associated payroll, benefits and pension implications.
- Reviewing and investigating claims, medical documentation and other information to determine appropriate adjudication, assessment and intervention actions.
- Interpreting and applying contracts, policies, procedures, medical documentation and statutory requirements to support effective leave and disability case management.
- Managing low-complexity illness/injury and subrogation cases, including coordinating return-to-work, stay-at-work and accommodation processes.
- Advising and educating managers and employees on disability, leave, attendance, Employee & Family Assistance Program (EFAP), wellness and health prevention programs and processes.
- Maintaining accurate and confidential employee case files, medical documentation and disability management records.
- Coordinating payroll and financial administration, including reconciling timecards and benefit payments, processing medical bills and invoices, and supporting Accounts Payable.
- Applying subject matter expertise on EPCOR’s attendance management system (Absence Connect), including troubleshooting with IT and Payroll, maintaining records and auditing absence data.
- Responding to employee and manager inquiries and providing research-based recommendations to support effective administrative practices.
- Supporting wellness initiatives, including coordinating training and seminars and facilitating debrief conversations following wellness-related events or interventions.
- Participating in projects and process improvements while maintaining process maps, documentation standards and compliance with applicable policies and regulations.
- Preparing reports and analyzing absence, claims and timekeeping data to identify discrepancies and support metrics, benchmarking and budget planning.
- Coordinating administrative requirements, including legal/file requests, transactional processes, team meetings and related documentation.
- Cross-training with the Benefits team to provide back-up support for savings plan and annual re-enrollment processes.
What’s required to be successful
- A degree in Human Resources, Human or Health Services (or related discipline) is required.
- 2+ years of experience in Disability Management, Health Services, or Human Resources is required, with demonstrated exposure to leave administration, disability case management, and wellness program support.
- Solid understanding of disability management frameworks, HR programs, and employee wellness initiatives is required.
- Familiarity with psychologically safe workplace standards and recent occupational health changes.
- Proficiency with HR systems and tools (e.g., Absence Connect, timecard systems), Microsoft Office Suite and SharePoint

Please note the following information:
- A requirement of working for EPCOR is that you are at least 18 years of age, successfully attained a high school diploma (GED, or equivalent level of secondary education) and legally entitled to work in Canada. (A copy of a valid work permit may be required.)
