Field Gas Technician

As a Field Gas Technician, you will report to the Supervisor, ENGLP Operations and are accountable for all skilled work related to installation, operation, maintenance and repair of natural gas meters and services, mains and other natural gas distribution infrastructure including customer service related field tasks and 24 hour emergency response.
What you’d be responsible for
- Playing a key role in operating and maintaining the assets and facilities as well as maintaining positive relationships and communicating effectively with multiple internal and external stakeholders throughout the EPCOR Natural Gas Limited Partnership (ENGLP) South Bruce franchise area.
- Ensuring the delivery of optimal results against appropriate performance metrics, including meeting customer expectations, operational effectiveness, and efficiency outcomes such as productivity, quality, reliability, and on time delivery.
- Installing and exchanging meters, regulators and valves and complete inspections at customer locations and in collaboration with the customer care team for seamless, timely and efficient dispatch of work in an organized manner.
- Liaising with 3rd parties working near the utility’s infrastructure, as requested through Ontario One Call or other means to identify location gas mains and services.
- Monitoring the conditions of natural gas distribution systems; investigating line strikes; completing damage reports and making system adjustments as required.
- Conducting regular inspections, maintenance and repairs of valves, regulators, meters and other infrastructure at stations and other facilities within the system.
- Responding to customer calls and emergencies including service interruptions, leaks, carbon monoxide and line strikes and participating in the after-hours on-call rotation.
- Coordinating tie-in, commissioning and start-up of new mains and services with construction resources. Coordinating with fire departments, police, Technical Standards and Safety Authority (TSSA) and other first responders and local authorities as required.
What’s required to be successful
- Grade 12 diploma or GED equivalent
- Ontario TSSA Gas Technician Certificate (G1 or G2) or equivalent
- Valid Ontario Class G Driver’s License
- Solid understanding of natural gas distribution and/or gas systems
- Working knowledge of legislation and safety codes related to residential, commercial and industrial natural gas fueled equipment.
- Strong mechanical aptitude
- Effective verbal and written communication skills.

Hours of work: 40 hours per week
