POSITION SUMMARY
 
As a member of EO’s People & Culture team, the Senior Director, Executive & Internal Communications, will have a central role in partnering with the Interim Executive Director and eventual CEO to ensure that EO professional staff feel connected to the bigger picture of the organization’s strategy. In this role the Senior Director Executive & Internal Communications advises our Senior Leadership Team and VP, People and Culture on communications to EO’s professional staff and the Global Board of Directors, keeping both groups informed of plans, changes, and EO operations. The Senior Director will also play a key role in our efforts to continually engage, align, empower, and connect our professional talent around the world.
 
Reporting to the VP, People & Culture, this individual will play a pivotal role in fostering a sense of connection, motivation and commitment among employees by leading  efforts to facilitate two-way information flow and culture building at the institutional level. The Senior Director will recommend, build alignment, and execute on creative ideas to strengthen staff peer-to-peer communication, knowledge sharing, and community building, using a combination of existing and future internal messaging and content platforms. The role will also be responsible for developing communication materials for all-staff events or recruitment efforts, such as templates, agendas, presentation slides, or talking points, meeting with senior leaders and subject matter experts to review and prepare as needed.
 
This individual will also advise and support EO’s Senior Leadership Team, including its Chief Executive Officer, COO, Chief Membership Officer, CMO, SVP, Products, and SVP, Technology in developing communications plans and messaging materials that will proactively inform and engage EO’s professional staff and Global Board, especially during times of transition and annual planning. To be successful in this position, excellent listening and writing skills are a must, along with an exceptionally high level of professionalism that comes from C-suite experience. This individual must be comfortable working with a high level of autonomy, collaborating with the Senior Leadership Team and Global Board Directors, handling sensitive information, and maintaining confidentiality.
 
Collaborating with staff throughout the organization, this individual will provide expert guidance on how to best leverage all internal platforms and tools to communicate important messages with colleagues. This individual may serve as a communications resource for Management Team members and colleagues as warranted. The ideal candidate possesses an interest in entrepreneurship and leadership, a passion for making connections and supporting a diverse community of colleagues, and solid knowledge of best practices in internal communications and change communications.
 
ESSENTIAL DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES
 
  • Structure and lead regular cadence of meetings with the CEO around key organizational events and dates to ensure that appropriate staff audiences are informed and engaged in the activity of the organization.
  • Structure and lead regular engagement with the organization’s leadership teams to ensure that their views and efforts are integrated into the CEO’s understanding of the pulse of the organization’s staff leadership.
  • Partner with the VP, People & Culture on employee engagement surveys, pulse surveys and related action plans, to ensure that leadership is visible, accountable and responsive.
  • Proactively identify gaps in staff understanding or awareness in the work of the organization, intentionally connecting staff across the organization to increase visibility and accessibility to information.
  • Guide or support the E-team and People & Culture team in developing leadership communications (all-staff emails, talking points, FAQs) and announcements related to organizational change.
  • Create content and provide ghostwriting support as needed for CEO and E-Team members as required.
  • Ascertain goals, timelines and key messages for board communications to Tier 1 and Tier 2 member leader and professional staff audiences, including board meeting readouts.
  • Collaborate with Marketing & Communications team, supporting crisis communications and organizational projects as required.  
  • Plan and execute monthly all-staff meeting (GSM), creating the agenda, managing speakers, hosting for the meeting, and producing a recap. 
  • Serve as a power user and expert for internal communications and project management platforms, including Teams, Assembly, Monday.com, and more. 
  • Consistently follow internal and employee communications trends, technology innovations, and industry best practices to recommend improvements on internal platforms. 
  • Measure the effectiveness of internal communications products by collecting feedback, monitoring analytics, and generating reports. 
  • Continuously encourage EO staff on how best to leverage EO’s available internal communications tools to share news and contribute to culture building.

QUALIFICATIONS, SKILLS, AND KNOWLEDGE REQUIRED
 
  • 8+ years’ experience in strategic communications position, with 4+ years in an internal communications role and 2+ years C-suite experience in an administrative, supportive or advisory capacity
  • Bachelor’s degree in Communications, Public Relations, Marketing, Journalism or a related field. 
  • Experience working in a heavily matrix organization; international team experience a plus.
  • Strong writer and editor, with experience project managing translated content 
  • Ability and confidence to advise senior managers and problem solve, to shape communications strategies and plans 
  • Experience managing multiple complex projects with high attention to detail. 
  • Working knowledge of content creation tools to develop fact sheets, photo galleries, slide decks, etc., for use in internal digital and social channels 
  • Comfort using digital collaboration and project management tools
