We are seeking a battery test an characterization engineer who will work on our energy storage products, under the Storage Business Unit (SBU) division.

The Role 

As a test and characterization engineer, the successful candidate will be part of the battery R&D team that is responsible for performing cell and module testing for design validation, BMU/BMS algorithm, failure analysis, and compliance support.

In this role the successful candidate will:

  • Prepare testing plans according to requirements.
  • Execute DOEs according to requirements.
  • Create / Modify the test setup which includes the electrical connections, mechanical fixtures, and sensor installation.
  • Summarize the test results as test reports for documentation and cross-functional review.
  • Participate in future product development discussions

Credentials/Technical Capabilities:

  • Pursuing BS/MS/PhD Mechanical Engineering, or Electrical Engineering, or Chemical Engineering.
  • Exposure to testing Lithium-ion Battery cells and modules.
  • Exposure to battery testing equipment, such as Arbin, Macro, et al.
  • Exposure to Lithium-ion Battery electrical performance testing, safety testing, and reliability testing.
  • Exposure to module dissection and assembly.
  • Demonstration of good understanding of basic Lithium-ion battery technologies.
  • Good communication skills.
  • Ability to work effectively within a team.
  • Desire and passion to change the world.

Desired Experience – the following skills will be advantageous:

  • Experience with Python or similar languages.
  • Hands-on experience with mechanical machine shops.
  • Hands-on experience with cell dissection and assemble.
  • Hands-on experience with SEM, TEM, XRD.
  • Hands-on experience with electrode coating/process.
  • Hands-on experience with cell assemble/manufacturing.

Travel: 

  • Occasional travel to our site in Fremont, CA.

Work location: 

  • Petaluma – CA. Candidate must be authorized to work in the US. 
  • This is an on-site job. Job cannot be performed remotely. 
  • Candidate must be able to perform physical activities, including, but not limited to: 
               Reaching, carrying objects, to above head level 
               Moving items 
               Using both hands to assemble detailed systems
