Staff DVT Engineer - Inverter, BESS

Engineering Bangalore, India

Description

Enphase Energy is a global energy technology company and leading provider of solar, battery, and electric vehicle charging products. Founded in 2006, Enphase transformed the solar industry with our revolutionary microinverter technology, which turns sunlight into a safe, reliable, resilient, and scalable source of energy to power our lives. Today, the Enphase Energy System helps people make, use, save, and sell their own power. Enphase is also one of the fastest growing and innovative clean energy companies in the world, with approximately 80 million products installed across more than 160 countries.

We are building teams that are designing, developing, and manufacturing next-generation energy technologies and our work environment is fast-paced, fun and full of exciting new projects.

Must be available to work on-site at our Bangalore office 5 days per week.

About the role:

Our microinverters control the flow of power from millions of solar panels and counting. As distributed renewable energy resources proliferate, our microinverters need increasingly advanced high-speed controls to manage the voltage and frequency of next-generation smart grids.

This position sits within our Inverter Design group, where you will work with a small team to develop fully functional prototypes that demonstrate new, advanced operation and control for autonomous grid connection, management, and regulation. As a Staff Inverter DVT (Design Verification Test) Engineer, you will own and drive the verification and test strategy for Enphase's inverter firmware — ensuring it meets engineering requirements, design specifications, and worldwide safety and grid standards. You will also coach and mentor other engineers and contribute to the team's technical direction.

What will you do:

  • Develop test strategies and plans to verify that Enphase's inverter firmware functions per engineering requirements and design specifications.
  • Develop and execute test strategies to ensure safety and optimal functionality of Enphase's solar microinverter products to meet worldwide standards.
  • Design and implement automated test systems in Python and Ruby, enabling continuous integration for the firmware development team.
  • Collaborate with hardware and firmware engineers to ensure firmware is designed for test.
  • Confer with Quality Assurance, Development, and Product Management on project planning, and ensure effective testing of Enphase's products within design constraints.
  • Use test automation, power meters, oscilloscopes, DC supplies, and other lab test equipment to ensure complete functional, efficiency, and safety test coverage for Enphase's solar microinverter hardware and firmware.
  • Coach and train new members of the technical staff on Enphase's test equipment, procedures, and automation software.
  • Provide technical leadership and mentor junior engineers.

Who You Are and What You Will Bring:

  • B.E / B. Tech in Electrical Engineering and/or Power Electronics/Power Systems.
  • BS/MS in Electrical and/or Electronics Engineering.
  • 8+ years of experience in a similar role as an embedded firmware test/DVT/QA engineer.
  • Strong Python programming experience controlling test equipment and analyzing data; experience with Ruby is a plus.
  • Experience across the stages of embedded firmware design, implementation, test, deployment, and maintenance.
  • In-depth knowledge of relevant worldwide standards such as IEEE 1547, 1741 SA, CA Rule 21, HECO SRD 1.1, AS/NZS 4777.2:2015, SAND2013-9875, UK G83/2, and Sandia standards.
  • Knowledge of worldwide advanced grid functions and fault conditions.
  • In-depth familiarity with AC grid simulators and solar panel simulators.
  • Demonstrated technical leadership: leading test strategy, influencing design-for-test, and mentoring engineers.
  • Experience establishing continuous-integration (CI) pipelines for embedded firmware test.
  • Experience with grid-code certification testing and interactions with certification/test labs.
  • Hands-on experience with advanced grid-support function testing (volt/VAR, frequency-watt, ride-through) across multiple regional grid codes.
