Business Systems Analyst II



The Business Systems Analyst II is accountable for completing advanced systems development, quality assurance, and day to day operational tasks in support of ongoing benefits administration delivery, both internally and externally to clients within their portfolio of clients/ aligned pod. They ensure that all work delivered to the client is configured accurately per the system requirements, both for their own tasks and any BSA I task that they are assigned to oversee, including assigned Annual Enrollment configuration responsibilities and dual year tasks. They should also show self-management of task prioritization, identify and communicate competing priorities with all stakeholders, identify risks within a reasonable time frame to not jeopardize deadlines, and independently reach out for assistance.


  • Manage, execute and track assigned client deliverables by maintaining and using processing guides according to processing calendar, and use process tracking system daily to ensure adherence to client SLAs (Service Level Agreement)
  • Work closely with the Shared Services teams (ASOPS, BPSS, Service Center) to deliver quality results of ancillary services
  • Analyze and understand client requirements for the execution of implementation, Annual Enrollment and ongoing changes
  • Create, execute, and maintain accurate and detailed test plans (unit, function, integration, and regression) for all new system functionality testing
  • Leverage technology to automate ongoing processes and create the most efficient and stable delivery of services to clients
  • Responsible for issue research, resolution, root cause analysis, system audits and advanced system configuration with senior support
  • Research and analyze cases, putting in place solutions to address root cause with the intent to reduce ongoing case volume and effectively prevent reoccurring system issues
  • Possess advanced knowledge and understanding of current system functionality; escalate gaps in functionality, as appropriate
  • Responsible for key dashboard items, including change management tickets, case management, issue trending, and data checks
  • Responsible for clear documentation of processing guides and technical documentation
  • Contribute to client satisfaction through quality work product and provide timely internal and external responses
  • Work with managers and client teams to support timely provision migrations for aligned clients
  • Record time accurately in accordance with stated deadlines to the correct project and category to ensure that scope, cost and resources allocation per project can be calculated
  • Participate in internal and external meetings with client and third party vendors
  • Responsible for serving as a backup for the BSA I
  • Support BSA I through onboarding and knowledge growth


  • Perform other duties as assigned



  • Intermediate level skills required in MS Excel, Critical Thinking and Attention to Detail

  • Intermediate level of SQL proficiency

  • Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required
    • In lieu of Bachelor’s degree, equivalent years of experience in business analytics, management information systems, human resources management, benefits administration or a related field
  • 2+ years of external experience as a Business Analyst or Systems Analyst
  • 1+ year of experience as a Business Systems Analyst at Empyrean


  • Domain experience in health insurance and/or benefit administration is a plus
  • Experience with MS Excel required
  • Experience with SQL and a working knowledge of relational database systems preferred
  • Demonstrated analytic and design capabilities
  • Knowledge of case or ticket management systems such as CRM or Atlassian JIRA
  • Understanding of testing methodology and test planning
  • Solid understanding of technology platform in terms of configuration and day to day functionality, business processes and capabilities
  • Or, any equivalent combination of education, experience, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills, and abilities will be considered
