Position 

The Senior Director of Medicinal Chemistry is central to our Drug Development pipeline.  Reporting to the Vice President, Chemistry, you will assist in building Eikon’s Medicinal Chemistry teams.

You’re a motivated and seasoned drug hunter who is interested in using innovation to push the boundaries of traditional drug discovery process.  You are a hands-on leader who loves to solve difficult problems and are not discouraged by challenges.  You’re well-organized, detail oriented, and take pride in your ability to rapidly analyze situations and judicious decisions.  You’re collaborative by nature with uncompromising integrity.  You’re conscientious and pay almost obsessive attention to detail, documentation and organization are second nature.  You are excited about being a foundational member of a rapidly growing team.  

What You’ll Do 

  • Lead cross-function drug discovery team(s) collaborating with biologists, chemists engineers and pharmacologists 
  • Support advancement of drug discovery projects from inception to IND 
  • Contributing to the success our projects by guiding junior team members in the hit ID and beyond; including providing strategic oversight of other programs through leaders on your team 
  • Provide leadership to optimize our drug discovery pipeline and creation of new capabilities, including defining the scientific priorities to align with corporate goals 
  • Manage intern and external team of synthetic chemists, cultivating an open and collaborative culture and providing scientific insights and mentorship to young scientists on the team 
  • Collaborate with Medicinal Chemists, Computational Chemists, DMPK specialists, Pharmacologists, Biologists and other key functions to support the advancement of our Drug Discovery portfolio 
  • May serve as proxy for the VP of Chemistry 

Qualifications 

  • Ph.D. in Chemistry or related discipline with at least 15+ years of industrial experience in drug discovery 
  • Deep expertise in small molecule medicinal chemistry (structure-based and/or pharmacophore-based drug design, synthetic organic chemistry, ADME/DMPK optimization) 
  • Demonstrated track record of success in leading small molecule drug discovery from hit ID to IND submission 
  • Proven track record of supervising Ph.D. level scientists to high levels of productivity, including improving skills and knowledge through mentorship and focused development activities 
  • Capability to manage cross functional drug discovery teams
  • Exceptional problem-solving skills including developing creative and innovative solutions
  • Extensive experience in driving external chemistry teams at CRO's 
  • Strong leadership skills with excellent interpersonal skills, including outstanding written, verbal and presentations skills

The expected salary range for this role is $226,000 to $260,000 depending on skills, competency and the market demand for your expertise.
