Manager, Software Engineering, Algorithms and Analysis
Description
Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets.
Position
The Manager, Software Engineering, Algorithms and Analysis will join an existing multi-disciplinary team that computationally extracts scientifically relevant information from Eikon’s custom microscopy images, at scale. They will manage a small (3-6 person) team to support department goals by developing custom computer vision and probabilistic inference algorithms to extract dynamical information from microscopy images and other sources, interfacing with biologists, medicinal chemists, microscopists, optical engineers, and other software groups to understand the company’s needs and provide solutions to those needs.
About You
You are a seasoned programmer with a strong math background and experience working with biological data. You are comfortable developing software at all levels of technical maturity, from proof-of-concept to production, and working cross-functionally with microscopists, optical engineers, scientists, and other software engineering teams. You have a passion for mentoring junior colleagues and supporting developers at all levels in growing and being happier and more productive. You love to code and aren’t afraid to jump into the weeds, and are willing to pinch hit anywhere you can. At the same time, you maintain a clear sense of how the team’s work supports department and corporate objectives and are able to help your team maintain focus towards those objectives.
What You’ll Do
- Initially you will contribute to the design, implementation, and optimization of computer vision and probabilistic inference algorithms to enable Eikon’s drug discovery programs and integrate high-impact optimizations into our production pipelines.
- You will work cross-functionally with database engineers, data scientists, scientists, and microscopists to deliver efficient and effective solutions.
- You will transition into a people-manager role, mentoring and supporting developers who report to you by reading pull requests, helping the developers plan and execute on AGILE sprint tasks to meet broader team goals, and ensuring the developers grow personally and technically. You will interface with Product Management and Project Management to develop road maps and quarterly strategies for key deliverables.

- Three or more years experience writing production software in Python; familiarity with C++ a plus.
- Industry programming experience required.
- Strong background in areas such as probability, stochastic processes, discrete math, Fourier analysis, and numerical optimization (Gibbs sampling, Bayesian inference, etc).
- College-level biology knowledge required, experience with biological microscopy a plus.
- Prior experience with people management required (undergrads, interns, etc ok)
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
- Team oriented, flexible, able to adapt to rapidly evolving goals and challenges.
