Senior Manager, Systems Engineering

Engineering Hayward, California

Description

Eikon Therapeutics is a new biopharmaceutical company employing revolutionary technology at the intersection of chemistry, engineering, computation, and biology to discover novel treatments for life-threatening diseases. Eikon’s discovery platform is built on groundbreaking innovations from its founders (Nobel Prize, 2014), culminating in the creation of microscopes which enable real time, molecular-resolution measurements of protein movement in living cells, thereby unlocking otherwise intractable classes of proteins as drug targets.

Position

The Senior Manager, Systems Engineering will have a key role in defining and developing the instrument system that powers Eikon’s drug discovery pipeline. We seek a goal-oriented and collaborative engineer with a background and expertise in opto-mechanical or opto-electrical systems.  As a key member of a dynamic, multidisciplinary project team, the successful candidate will work with multiple stakeholders to define and implement an instrument that meets the required system performance.

About You

You are an adventurous, passionate, and creative engineer eager to apply your talents to empower a new way of discovering medicines in a highly interdisciplinary biopharmaceutical environment. You are excited about the challenges of developing cutting-edge hardware from the ground up to enable novel technologies and solve real-world problems, and you will bring to these challenges enthusiasm, high energy, intellectual curiosity, and technical excellence.

What You’ll Do

  • Work with stakeholders (customers, other cross-functional groups) to develop system-level requirements.
  • Define specifications of system-level performance and verification or production tests to assure quality.
  • Implement system-level tests.
  • Working with stakeholders to develop sub-system requirements.
  • Perform (or work with others to perform) system-level modeling and simulation where necessary.
  • Support system-level integration.
  • Guide and contribute to cross-functional efforts that affect system performance.  For example:  calibration, firmware, software integration.
  • Drive system bring-up, including debug, validation and system-level production tests.
  • Manage optical/photon, power, thermal budgets for the system.
  • Define or support qualification testing of the system.
  • Create and maintain design documentation where appropriate: requirements documents, traceability or compliance matrices, test plans, etc.
  • Participate in or drive sub-system and system design reviews.
  • Support triage and debug of system issues in the field, after production release.

Qualifications

  • B.S. or M.S. in systems design, electrical, optical, mechanical or closely related field with 8+ years of industry experience or Ph.D. with 5+ years of industry experience.
  • 2+ years of experience directly managing people.
  • Proven track of developing opto-mechanical or electro-mechanical systems (for example, in camera, LiDAR, metrology and instrumentation, drone, automotive applications).
  • Experience in requirements gathering and system specification.
  • Record of working cross-functionally.
  • Familiarity with system design best practices, instrumentation, measurement and diagnostic tools, design of experiments, and statistical data analysis.
