SALARY RANGE: The anticipated salary range for this role is $26.50 to $40 per hour. This range reflects a good faith estimate based on the targeted level for the role and typical compensation benchmarks across U.S. locations. Actual compensation may vary depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, geographical location, and internal alignment.
SUMMARY
The Aero-Mechanical Engineering Specialist supports the design, fabrication, and integration of mechanical and structural components used in uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS). This role bridges engineering and production by transforming design concepts into physical prototypes and tooling. Specialists operate within a highly collaborative environment, working closely with engineers, machinists, and technicians to ensure precision, manufacturability, and repeatability in all hardware produced.
This position is ideal for individuals with strong hands-on fabrication skills who enjoy blending technical drafting, machining, and assembly work in a fast-paced aerospace environment. The Specialist contributes directly to prototype builds, mechanical test setups, and iterative design improvements.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.
- Support the design, modeling, and fabrication of mechanical and structural parts for UAS assemblies.
- Operate and maintain CNC machines, mills, and lathes for prototype and low-rate production parts.
- Set up and execute CNC programs from provided CAM files or drawings; verify accuracy with precision measuring tools.
- Assist engineers with tolerance stack-ups, fit checks, and verification of mechanical interfaces.
- Prepare and update 2D/3D CAD models, drawings, and BOMs using SolidWorks or similar software.
- Work collaboratively with machinists, composite technicians, and electrical teams during integration.
- Support the assembly of airframes, sub-assemblies, and test fixtures.
- Maintain accurate documentation and part tracking within PDM or equivalent data systems.
- Inspect machined and fabricated parts for dimensional compliance and finish quality.
- Contribute to continuous improvement of shop practices and tooling methods
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
Education:
- Associates degree, technical diploma, or equivalent hands-on experience in mechanical, manufacturing, or aerospace disciplines.
Experience:
- 2–4 years of relevant technical or fabrication experience in aerospace, robotics, or advanced manufacturing.
- Prior exposure to CNC machining, mechanical assembly, or prototype development.
Technical Skills:
- Proficiency with 3D CAD software (SolidWorks preferred).
- Working knowledge of CNC machine setup, tooling, and basic G-code interpretation.
- Familiarity with GD&T, blueprint reading, and mechanical tolerancing.
- Experience with measurement tools such as calipers, micrometers, and height gauges.
- Understanding of materials used in aerospace applications (aluminum, carbon fiber, titanium).

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment may involve a standard office setting while also incorporating elements of a production area. Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone. Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to lift up to 30 pounds as needed.
