RedWire Defense Tech is seeking an experienced IPT Lead – Payload Integration to lead payload integration for Uncrewed Aircraft Systems (UAS). The role focuses on integrating mission-specific payloads onto the Penguin UAS platform, managing mechanical, electrical, and data interfaces, and ensuring alignment with operational requirements. You will work closely with engineering, program management, and field teams to deliver seamless payload integration from concept to deployment.
 
Key Responsibilities:
 
  • Lead the Integrated Product Team (IPT) for payload integration across multiple UAS programs.
  • Oversee the design, development, and implementation of payload interfaces, harnesses, and mounting solutions.
  • Coordinate electrical, mechanical, and data integration between the airframe and payload systems.
  • Develop and validate payload retraction and deployment mechanisms ensuring system reliability.
  • Support the definition and implementation of payload CONOPS and mission operational requirements.
  • Manage system-level integration, ground testing, and flight validation activities.
  • Collaborate with systems, electrical, and mechanical engineers to resolve technical challenges.
  • Ensure compliance with relevant MIL-STD, FAA, and DoD integration standards.
  • Drive cross-functional coordination between engineering, program management, and operations teams.
  • Provide technical leadership, schedule oversight, and risk management throughout the integration lifecycle.
 
Qualifications:
 
  • 5+ years of experience in aerospace, defense, or UAS industries with a focus on payload or sensor integration.
  • Proven expertise in integrating sensor systems such as EO/IR, SIGINT/EW, SAR, and ISR payloads.
  • Strong knowledge of electrical, mechanical, and data interfaces, including power and communication systems.
  • Experience with payload mounting solutions, harness design, and retraction mechanisms.
  • Proficiency in CAD and simulation tools for payload design and analysis.
  • Solid understanding of system CONOPS and mission requirements development.
  • Demonstrated experience leading cross-functional teams and managing technical projects.
  • Hands-on experience in flight testing, payload validation, and troubleshooting.
  • Familiarity with MIL-STD, FAA, and DoD compliance for payload systems.
  • Excellent problem-solving, leadership, and communication skills.
  • Good spoken and written English communication skills.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechatronics, Aerospace, Systems, Electrical, or Mechanical Engineering, or related technical field (or equivalent experience).
