SALARY RANGE: The anticipated salary range for this role is $93,000 to $110,400 annually. This range reflects a good faith estimate based on the targeted level for the role and typical compensation benchmarks across U.S. locations. Actual compensation may vary depending on the selected candidate’s qualifications, experience, geographical location, and internal alignment.
SUMMARY
Redwire is seeking a highly skilled and motivated UAS Operator / Instructor III to operate uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS), provide technical support, and deliver effective training for internal teams and external customers. This role supports safe, compliant, and efficient UAS operations through mission planning, flight operations, equipment testing, maintenance support, and hands-on instruction. The ideal candidate has strong UAS operational experience, FAA credentials, excellent attention to detail, and the ability to lead demonstrations and training in dynamic environments.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.
UAS Operations
- Operate UAS in accordance with FAA regulations, company policies, customer requirements, and site-specific procedures.
- Conduct mission planning, airspace and risk reviews, pre-flight inspections, flight operations, and post-flight analysis.
- Support safe and efficient UAS operations in a variety of operational and training environments.
- Travel up to 50% to support customer engagements, demonstrations, training events, testing, and field operations.
Technical Support
- Maintain, troubleshoot, and support UAS equipment, including routine maintenance, repairs, and configuration checks.
- Conduct equipment testing and evaluation to verify performance, reliability, and operational readiness.
- Monitor UAS technology advancements, regulatory updates, and industry best practices relevant to operational performance and training delivery.
Training Delivery
- Develop, update, and deliver UAS training programs for internal personnel and external customers.
- Instruct trainees on UAS piloting techniques, safety procedures, system operation, mission execution, and regulatory compliance.
- Conduct demonstrations, simulations, and practical exercises to reinforce trainee understanding and proficiency.
Safety and Compliance
- Adhere to applicable FAA regulations, company standards, and customer requirements during UAS operations and training activities.
- Promote a strong safety culture by applying operational best practices, risk mitigation strategies, and disciplined procedural compliance.
- Perform other responsibilities as assigned.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Prior military aviation, UAS, or directly related operational experience.
- FAA Part 107 Remote Pilot Certificate or equivalent UAS credential.
- Strong attention to detail and ability to follow operational protocols and safety procedures with precision.
- Experience conducting demonstrations, equipment testing, and customer-facing operational support.
- Working knowledge of UAS technology, airspace regulations, and industry best practices.
- Excellent communication and instructional skills, including the ability to explain complex technical concepts clearly to trainees.
- Strong problem-solving and troubleshooting skills related to UAS equipment and field operations.
- Ability to work independently and collaboratively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Ability to regularly lift and move equipment, shipping boxes, and related materials as required.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- FAA pilot rating.
- 10+ years of directly related UAS, aviation, military, or technical operations experience.
- Bachelor's degree in aviation, engineering, technical field, education, or a related discipline.
- Certified Flight Instructor (CFI) certification.

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS
The work environment may involve a standard office setting while also incorporating elements of a production area. Employees will use standard office equipment, including computers, and must demonstrate stamina to sit or stand while maintaining attention to detail despite potential interruptions. The role may require occasional activities such as walking, climbing, stooping, crouching, and bending. Vision is necessary for reading printed materials and a computer screen, while hearing and speech are essential for effective communication both in person and over the telephone. Additionally, the position may necessitate travel by air or automobile. Employees may be required to use personal protective equipment, including safety glasses, safety shoes, and shop coats, to ensure safety in the production environment. Employees may be able to lift up to 50 pounds as needed.
