SUMMARY
The Electrical Engineer, Senior (III) serves as a technical leader for the design, integration, and validation of electrical subsystems across fixed-wing and VTOL uncrewed aircraft systems (UAS). This role owns major electrical deliverables—such as avionics integration, power architecture, communications infrastructure, and high-reliability wiring systems—and ensures seamless coordination across mechanical, software, and flight test teams.
The Senior Engineer leads design reviews, mentors junior engineers, executes complex analyses, and drives system-level troubleshooting during prototype, production, and flight test phases. This role requires deep technical expertise, strong analytical capabilities, and an ability to balance safety, reliability, manufacturability, and performance in a fast-paced aerospace environment.
RESPONSIBILITIES
The following job functions are a basic requirement but are not limited to and may be assigned other duties.
- Lead electrical subsystem design and integration efforts for avionics, sensors, payloads, and power distribution systems.
- Develop and own wiring harness architecture, electrical schematics, PCB requirements, and system-level electrical interfaces.
- Perform advanced electrical analysis including failure modes, power budgeting, signal integrity, and grounding strategies.
- Drive system integration in collaboration with mechanical, software, GNC, test engineering, and production teams.
- Lead troubleshooting and root-cause analysis for complex electrical and avionics issues discovered in lab, production, or flight test environments.
- Support and guide flight test activities including instrumentation, data collection, and anomaly resolution.
- Conduct and lead formal design reviews (PDR, CDR) and ensure electrical deliverables meet quality and reliability standards.
- Provide mentorship and technical oversight for early-career engineers and technicians.
- Collaborate with suppliers, manufacturing teams, and quality engineering to ensure manufacturability and compliance.
- Contribute to the development and refinement of engineering processes, design guidelines, and standards.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities and balance technical depth with project delivery needs.
- High level of ownership, initiative, and accountability for subsystem performance.
REQUIRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering, Aerospace Engineering, or related field required.
- 4–7 years of hands-on experience in electrical, avionics, or embedded hardware design.
- Demonstrated experience owning subsystem-level design from concept through validation.
- Experience supporting prototype builds, HIL/SIL testing, and/or flight test operations.
- Expert proficiency with schematic capture and electrical design tools (Altium Designer preferred).
- Strong understanding of wiring harness development, signal routing, shielding, and EMI/EMC mitigation.
- Proficiency with oscilloscopes, logic analyzers, power analysis tools, and electrical debug equipment.
- Deep understanding of communication protocols (CAN, Ethernet, RS-422/485, UART).
- Knowledge of power electronics, DC/DC regulation, and battery/ESD protection strategies.
- Familiarity with aerospace cable assemblies, MIL-SPEC connectors, and environmental qualification standards.
PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS
- Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering or related field.
- Experience developing avionics systems, flight-critical electronics, or high-reliability hardware for aerospace or defense.
- Prior involvement in system-level architecture definition or technical leadership roles.
- Experience supporting environmental testing (thermal, vibration, EMC) or formal qualification efforts.
- Experience with modeling and simulation tools (SPICE, MATLAB/Simulink).
- Familiarity with autopilot systems, flight controllers, or embedded sensor systems.
