Reports to: Practice Manager, ECPC Pain Clinic
 

Job Supervisory Responsibilities: None

 

Job Summary:

The Billing Specialist provides the first patient interaction with East Carolina Anesthesia Associates, so a professional and friendly attitude is essential for this role. The billing specialist will complete various duties throughout their day including but not limited to verifying demographic information, setting up new patient accounts, copying new insurance cards, with the primary responsibility being collecting and processing payments for copays as well as outstanding balances.

The Billing Specialist will:

 

Duties/Responsibilities:

        Receive selected patients into the collections office for various interactions

        Update patient demographic and insurance information as needed

        Collect co-pays at the time of service

        Collect outstanding balances as identified by the business office

        Implement payment plans as directed by the business office

        Prepare end-of-day collection reports and deposits

        Prepare daily charge sheets for pick up by the business office

        Set up new patient accounts in the EMR

        Make collection calls to patients with balances who have upcoming appointments

        Provide data to providers regarding lab results and assist them in retrieving lab reports as needed from the EMR

        Abide by patient confidentiality regulations to protect the patient and clinic/practice and adheres to HIPAA regulations.

        Maintain composure when dealing with difficult situations.

        Perform other duties as assigned.

 

Education and Experience:

        High school diploma.

        Two years’ medical front desk receptionist experience preferred but not required.

        Knowledge of medical terminology and insurance verification.

        Knowledge of prior authorizations and referral management is preferred.

        Proficient with EMR.

        Ability to communicate and collaborate effectively with staff, physicians, and external customers.

        Strong ability to multi-task and move from one project to another.

        Works to resolve problems or determine an appropriate course of action in a timely manner.

        Strong time management, follow-through, and organizational skills.

 

Work Environment/Physical Requirements:

        Work performed in an office environment.

        Involves frequent contact with patients, physicians, and medical office staff.

        Work may be stressful at times.

        Interaction with others is frequent and often disruptive.

        Requires long periods of standing and walking.

        Physical activity can be irregular and fast-paced regularly.

        Must possess sufficient eye-hand coordination/manual dexterity to operate medical and office equipment.

        Required normal range of hearing and eyesight to record, prepare, and communicate appropriate reports and evaluations.

        Must be able to lift 5 pounds with no assistance.
