In addition to a talented cadre of environmental lawyers and legislative advocates, Earthjustice has an amazing Communications department that works in partnership with every other department at the organization. The Digital Advocacy Manager reports to the Associate Director of Digital Advocacy and will oversee the digital advocacy program to develop, execute, and manage multi-channel digital advocacy campaigns with the goal of driving meaningful supporter action and increasing engagement across email, mobile, paid media, social, and web. This role is highly collaborative, working with communication, legal and lobbying program staff, and other members across the organization.
Campaigns focus on national and regional environmental issues including healthy communities, climate and energy, and lands, oceans, and wildlife. Experience working with 501(c)(4) organizations is a plus.
The person should be comfortable with HTML, digital advocacy tools, spreadsheets, analytics, and fundraising. This is a supervisory position.
The Digital Advocacy Manager is expected to work a full-time (37.5 hours/week) schedule, and may work hybrid from any Earthjustice office or remotely from within the US.
WHAT YOU’LL DO
Advocacy Strategy & Implementation (40%)
- Lead highly collaborative, integrated, multi-channel digital advocacy campaigns that advance institutional and departmental priorities, including regional campaigns in key priority states and programs that deepen supporter engagement across email, web, SMS, social media, and paid advertising.
- Ensure cohesive messaging across channels and issue areas; use messaging, segmentation, and platform testing to improve email and mobile engagement, campaign effectiveness, and supporter experience. Will manage the building, coding, testing and delivery of outgoing messages and online comments to key political targets
- Work with Digital team to produce accurate, quality, and timely advocacy related content to existing and potential Earthjustice audiences in an ever-shifting landscape of news, technology, politics, and law. Must adopt a flexible approach to meeting rapid response moments and pivot strategies where needed.
Audience growth & retention (20%)
- Develop email list growth strategies through paid and unpaid efforts such as partnering with social media and marketing teams on campaigns, cross promotions with other organizations, sponsored petitions and advertising campaigns.
- Work closely with the Digital team to manage the strategy, growth and engagement of our SMS list for digital advocacy, identifying opportunities to optimize our messaging, digital assets, or strategies to reach growth goals.
- Manage supporter engagement strategies and ensure retention of supporters on our lists and promote deeper engagement opportunities through writing LTEs, partner/coalition building, taking additional actions, etc.
Data, Testing & Analysis (15%)
- Generate KPIs and populate digital advocacy dashboard, setting data-informed, mission-driven goals and benchmarks. Continuously test and refine strategies to ensure they are delivering positive outcomes for Earthjustice.
- Works in tandem with Digital team to manage regular reporting on analytics, leverage data to adjust strategy, and monitor performance and effectiveness of the program.
Project management and internal education (15%)
- Partners with Associate Director of Digital Advocacy to manage multi-channel digital advocacy campaigns across all issues area, including issues that intersect with Earthjustice Action.
- Regularly reports out on advocacy and digital campaign performance to internal stakeholders and translates data into clear takeaways and recommendations for future campaigns.
- Ongoing internal education for Earthjustice staff about the digital advocacy program to increase visibility of the work and tying it back to broader organizational goals. This includes drafting best practices guidelines and train existing and new staff on digital advocacy.
Management (10%)
- Directly manages the Digital Advocacy Specialist; conducts performance reviews, check-ins, feedback sessions, and other management functions including attending manager training and coaching sessions.
- Mentors Specialist on digital strategies and the use of digital advocacy platforms; oversee the quality of work on all digital and mobile communications.
- Uphold Earthjustice’s mission and values by fostering a respectful, inclusive, and collaborative work environment, providing clear direction and feedback, and promoting a culture of learning for all team members.
- Oversee relevant administrative, budgeting, and personnel management of direct reports, ensuring that all organizational policies and standards are met. Partner with Communications leadership on rolling out change management initiatives.
Ongoing Learning
- Actively pursue professional development and contribute to a culture of learning by building skills and sharing knowledge.
- Pursue innovative, best-in-class approaches to communications work and share those learnings with colleagues. Maintain an ongoing understanding of digital advocacy best practices and movement trends to ensure Earthjustice leads, not just follows.

WHAT YOU’LL BRING
- Bachelors degree, preferred. 7+ years of relevant professional experience.
- Experience with at least one eCRM tool—preferably EveryAction and experience with at least on mobile platform—preferably Mobile Commons.
- Experience working with 501(c)(4) organizations is a plus.
- Demonstrated proficiency with Excel, HTML, and digital tools.
- Ability to learn quickly and take on responsibility.
- Strong detail orientation, organizational, and project management skills a must.
- Ability to translate complex issues into compelling, accessible communications.
- Ability to prioritize, manage multiple deadlines, and respond quickly to new opportunities and developments.
- Ability to work collaboratively with other staff to meet shared cross-team goals and give honest, constructive, respectful feedback.

Salaries at Earthjustice are determined by working location and are commensurate with the experience required.
The annual salary range for this role in San Francisco, CA or New York, NY is $113,00-$125,500
The annual salary range for this role in Washington, D.C., Chicago, IL, Seattle, WA, Honolulu, HI, or Los Angeles, CA is $107,400-$119,300
The annual salary range for this role in Philadelphia, PA, Juneau, AK, Juneau, AK or Denver, CO is $101,700-$113,000
The annual salary range for this role in Miami, FL, Tallahassee, FL, Bozeman, MT, New Orleans, LA or Houston, TX is $96,000-$106,700
The annual salary range in other locations will vary by location and will land between: $96,000-$119,300
