JOB SUMMARY:
The Point of Care Testing (POCT) Specialist will work at our Brampton location to complement the duties of the Scientific Director by supporting POCT method verification/validations, coordination of quality assurance activities, coordinating those national activities which may impact multiple sites, submitting MFM requests, and supporting LIS interface UAT testing.
The POCT Specialist will act in a consultative manner with relevant internal and external stakeholders with whom they are supporting; always first seeking to understand and providing well-reasoned advice on methodologies in a collaborative fashion while ensuring quality processes are maintained in the department.KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES:
- Supporting evaluation of new POCT methods/instrumentation/workflows as outlined by the Chemistry Scientific Director and in collaboration with Hematology and Microbiology Directors, spanning chemistry, hematology, and microbiology disciplines.
- Performs method verification/validation as outlined by the Director and, prepares and supports the preparation of necessary documentation to fulfill Quality Assurance and Accreditation compliance
- Responsible for supporting POCT coordination and quality assurance activities including, but not limited to proficiency testing programs and risk assessment
- Create and maintain appropriate standard operating procedures (SOPs) for each POCT program
- Submitting MFM requests
- Supporting LIS interface UAT testing on multiple middleware platforms
- Project leadership for implementing POCT initiatives
- Provide advice, trouble-shooting and technical support to POCT users and others as needed
- Engage in knowledge exchange/transfer by teaching and training staff, as needed
- Undertake additional administrative activities in support of the POCT operations and for the fulfillment of the business plan
- Identify, develop and assist with the implementation of new and innovative POCT products and services in accordance with agreed upon business priorities
- Collaborate with vendors to select and validate appropriate devices and complete relevant training programs
- Collaborate with private sector partners to provide POCT support in the capacity required
- Coordinate POCT project plans and activities, provide functional and technical expertise where needed, and provide feedback to the Director of Chemistry and collaborating discipline directors and other relevant stakeholders on the status of projects
- Establish, monitor, measure, and report performance metrics; analyze and identify issues impacting operational performance, and establish initiatives for continuous improvement to ensure products and services continuously meet or exceed customer expectation
- Maintain records of projects and assists with relevant documentation
- Monitor maintenance and quality control is documented as per schedule
- Review and release test results
- Participate in the POCT Strategic Working Group (POCTSWG)
- Maintain inventory and location of devices and consumables.
- The POCT Specialist will focus on POCT testing where needed and will be expected to distribute their time across the various Dynacare disciplines (i.e., Chemistry, Hematology, and Microbiology) as the need arises; however, there is no specific time commitment for a specific discipline.
KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE:
- Certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CLMTO)
- Experience and proven technical skills (proficiency and competency) in diagnostic chemistry testing. Proficiency in hematology and/or microbiology is an asset
- Knowledge and experience of POCT is an asset
