Dynacare is looking for a Laboratory Assistant to join their Forensic Toxicology team in Edmonton, AB. This is 1 year contract part time role working 20 hours a week, rotating shifts.
Perform Department of Transportation (DOT), non DOT, Correctional Service of Canada and Department of National Defence drug testing specimen accessioning. Ensure all necessary documentation is collected and specimens are correctly processed.
Adhere to company policies and Ministry of Health guidelines in order to ensure the smooth operation of the company and maintenance of the company’s image of superior customer service. Also responsible for
Ensure all reception duties are performed in a courteous and efficient manner, confirm security of specimen packages and ensure donor confidentiality is maintained at all times
Confirm specimen labeling is complete and accurate
Data entry by Identifying and inputting accounts, test codes and other applicable information and verify the completeness of all donor demographics documented on Custody and Control Form
Record and report questionable integrity of specimen or documentation
Apply barcodes to applicable documentation and specimen containers
Responsible for processing and disposing all specimens following company and government regulations
Solve problems related to forensic processing. Clarify and retrieve missing information
Follows all relevant pre and/or post analytical QA protocols as described in the company QA manual
Advise supervisor of violation of any Standard Operating Procedure (SOP)
Recommend improvement to procedures
Prepare for regular inspections by governing regulatory bodies
Communicates and cooperates with inspectors
May be required to provide testimony in legal procedures and prepare documentation for such
Trains and develops skill development of new team members as required
Ensure supplies are properly ordered and maintained and stock has not exceeded expiry date
Monitor workflow to ensure efficient operation
Packaging specimens for delivery according to company guidelines
Protects their own health and safety by reporting hazards and working in compliance with established safe working practices
Routine disinfecting of work area and equipment is to be completed on a scheduled basis
Preserves and safeguard all confidential information that comes to their knowledge in the course of employment with Dynacare.
Observes and comply with the policies of the company and applicable legal requirements with respect to confidential information and the protection of privacy
Laboratory Assistant Program or equivalent previous experience
Strong specimen processing knowledge
Excellent data entry skills required
Ability to handle incoming and outgoing phone calls and respond to changing priorities in a fast-paced environment
Excellent verbal and written English communication skills
Nice to have:
Knowledge of Forensic Toxicology
Strong interpersonal skills and the ability to work in a team centered environment
