Dynacare is looking for a Technical Specialist,Pathology to join our team in Brampton, ON. This is a full-time role.

 

The Technical Specialist will ensure the practice of good Laboratory Medicine throughout Dynacare as it pertains to Anatomical Pathology. The Technical Specialist will work at the Brampton location to complement the duties of the Director by supporting test validation/verifications, revision of SOPs/methods, helping to prepare the laboratory for inspection by CAP/IQMH and coordinating national activities which may impact mutiple sites. The Technical Specialist will act in a consultative manner with the Pathology Manager(s) and seniors; always first seeking to understand and providing well-reasoned advice on methodologies in a collaborative fashion while ensuring quality processes are maintained in the department. Accountable for the goodness of Anatomical Pathology by developing, managing and continuously improving Anatomical Pathology supporting Pathology’s vision, mission, strategic and operational objectives in accordance with the organization’s values. 

 

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES/ACCOUNTABILITIES

  • In depth technical expertise in Dynacare Pathology with a focus in histology, immunohistochemistry and molecular testing serving as the subject matter expert.
  • Broad knowledge of cytology
  • Evaluation of new methods/instrumentation/workflows as outlined by the Director, Pathology
  • Effectively transfer of knowledge, teach and/or train operational employees with a priority on improving quality and act as a lead resource for planning, training, implementation, and troubleshooting for pathology assistants, medical laboratory technologists and other pathology staff in routine and immunohistochemistry.
  • Performs validations/verifications as outlined by the Director. Prepares and submits the necessary documentation to fulfill Corporate Quality Assurance.
  • Advising follow-up corrective actions and assists with CAPA submissions, if needed
  • Provides input to Director’s strategic plans and directions and ensures on-going effective integration to create and sustain organizational success
  • Implement and review stratum appropriate (3-12 months) business plan within the context of Director’s business plan (including mission, vision, values, strategic positioning, and operational plan)
  • Assist Director with strategic planning and identifying leading edge test methods, equipment platforms and/or automation solutions
  • Identify, develop, and assist with the implementation of new platforms and innovative services for Dynacare nationally
  • Coordinate project plans, activities and provides functional and technical expertise where needed
  • Collaborate with private sector partners to provide technical expertise where needed
  • Develop, implement, and review processes to ensure compliance to policies, standards, regulatory requirements, and Dynacare requirements to ensure mitigation of risks
  • Develop and maintain (geographical and functional) networks
  • Establish, monitor, measure and report Anatomical Pathology performance metrics to Director
  •  Analyze and identify issues impacting operational performance and establish initiatives for continuous improvement to ensure all Compliance, Regulatory, and Quality standards are upheld for Anatomical Pathology
  • Determine common standards, policies, and procedures in Anatomical Pathology that align with applicable external regulatory requirements, customer expectations and corporate directions 
  • Communicate and build relationships with the pathologists and respond to calls/call back and query, as required
  • Maintain and enhance the integrity of Anatomical Pathology function within the organization
  • Develop and nurture a culture of safety, quality, service, performance, innovation, adaptiveness in all tasks performed

 

 

 

INTERNAL AND EXTERNAL RELATIONSHIPS

 

Internal

  • Pathology Operations: provide technical insights and engage in a collaborative/consultative manner with the Managers, senior MLTs and other staff to ensure adherence to SOPs, integrity of processes and quality assurance. The technical specialist shall not define or alter staffing decisions as these decisions are solely the domain of the Operations Manager.
  • Corporate Quality Assurance: engage QA staff to obtain requirements for validations/verifications and coordinate submission of validation documents, CAPA or SOP updates, accreditation checklist requirements and clarify updates with accreditation bodies (CAP, IQMH) upon consultation with Director

 

KNOWLEDGE, EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE

  • Certified Medical Laboratory Technologist (MLT) with good standing with the College of Medical Laboratory Technologists of Ontario (CMLTO)
  • Experience and proven technical skills (proficiency and competency) in routine histology and immunohistochemistry
  • Broad knowledge of cytology
  • Lean Six Sigma principles
  • Quality management principles and continuous quality improvement
