Director of Pricing & Profitability
Description
• Develop and implement pricing strategies designed to support client retention, enhance competitive positioning, and maximize profitability.
• Collaborate with partners and practice groups leaders to develop custom pricing solutions for new and existing clients, including participation in client pitches and the RFP process.
• Provide guidance and oversee the approval process for pricing proposals, ensuring alignment with firm-wide financial goals.
• Manage the annual rate setting process in collaboration with firm leadership.
• Research and maintain comprehensive understanding of legal market trends, industry benchmarks and intelligence related to pricing strategies.
Profitability Analysis
• Conduct detailed analysis of matter, client and attorney profitability, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement.
• Lead continuous efforts to standardize profitability metrics, reporting tools and methodologies across practice groups.
• Proactively provide insights to leadership on profitability trends impacting firm or client profitability.
Data Analytics
• Lead strategy development related to financial data reporting, ensuring analytics are actionable, visually intuitive, and accessible to attorneys and firm leadership.
• Support the design and implementation of tools and reports that enable data-driven decision-making at the executive level.
Leadership & Collaboration
• Serve as a key advisor to partners and senior leadership on pricing strategy and profitability performance.
• Collaborate with members of the finance team to ensure seamless implantation of client pricing arrangements.
• Partner with practice management and client experience teams to continuously monitor matter budgets, addressing variances proactively.
• Build and lead a high-performing team, foster a culture of innovation, collaboration and continuous learning.
• Promote and advocate for process improvements across the firm to ensure pricing solutions remain dynamic and responsive to market needs.
Join us if you have:
• Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Business, or related field required; MBA, JD, or other advanced degree strongly preferred.
Experience
• Minimum of 10 years of progressive experience in pricing, profitability analysis and financial leadership within a law firm.
• Deep understanding of legal industry and the competitive landscape.
Technical Skills
• Expert working knowledge of legal systems such as Aderant or Elite 3E.
• Significant experience designing and implement alternative fee arrangements (AFAs).
• High proficiency in data visualization tools and financial modeling.
Leadership Competences
• Exceptional ability to drive change and influence decision-making within a partnership.
• Demonstrated success managing complex projects in a fast-paced, evolving environment.
• Strong interpersonal communication skills with a customer service focus.

The annualized salary range for this position in Washington is $246,000 to $287,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on the candidate’s education, training, experience and other job-related factors permitted by law. Full time employees may be eligible for a bonus, health insurance with an optional HSA, long term disability, dental insurance, vision care, telemedicine and virtual short term solution based counseling services, life insurance, Healthcare and Dependent Care Flexible Spending Accounts, subsidized backup care and caregiving resources, 401(k), vacation, sick time, 11 paid holidays each year and an employee assistance program. For full-time employees, the initial vacation benefit is 15 days per year and 11 days of sick leave per year, accrued bi-weekly. Additional voluntary programs include: voluntary accident insurance, voluntary life, voluntary disability, voluntary long term care, and pet insurance. Commuter and Transit programs are also available.
California
The annualized salary range for this position in Los Angeles is $246,000 to $287,000; and in San Francisco is $283,000 to $330,000. The annualized salary range for this position in New York City is $283,000 to $330,000. Actual pay will be adjusted based on experience and other job-related factors permitted by law.
