Global Commodity Manager

TVM Auburn Hills, Michigan

JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:    

  • Engage with engineering and Structure staff to ensure link & leverage, and supply base optimization
  • Qualify/select/approve suppliers for approved supplier list/PBU/Segment
  • Review/communicate category plan with Structure and TVM leadership and define and adhere to the “refresh” cycle
  • Identify and develop suppliers for emerging technology and current and future business needs and support early sourcing
  • Develop plan to attain lowest upfront costs/ideal value stream performance and actively work the Customer models
  • Build and maintain Supplier relationships for major cross Structure suppliers, leading major cross- Structure negotiations as required
  • Lead negotiations of corporate-wide supplier contracts including payment terms and Terms & Conditions w/ Structure support
  • Track raw material commodity indexing and provide management forecasts and history of market trends
  • Monitor supplier performance and assessment; reevaluate capabilities
  • Create, lead and monitor supplier development/improvement plans (executed by division)
  • Promote cost mgmt. activities to ensure maintenance and use of  cost standards and appropriate treatment of supplier-specific cost models
  • Coordinate technical lead & supplier interface resources to continually develop supply base and understand market trends/changes
  • Acquire and apply intimate knowledge of economic, business, technology and competitive trends
  • Demonstrate tech/ product knowledge & support buyer certification
  • Ensure active technical integration and leadership to communize specifications and parts serve as engineering liaisons

JOB REQUIREMENTS:

  • Manage lead negotiator listing for category
  • Personally lead supplier relationships 
  • Manage and lead negotiation efforts on payment/contract terms & conditions, negotiations, top management meetings, supplier relationship management

STANDARD QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Education - Bachelor's Degree or Purchasing degree
  • Experience - Five (5) to Seven (7) years of related experience.  Additional education can be substituted for experience and vice versa.
  • Experience purchasing plastic and resin is mandatory.
  • Proven Negotiation skills and experience in creating purchasing strategies.
  • Travel required

  • Ability to execute and be involved actively “on the floor with sleeves rolled up” to develop cost/quality improvements with PBU’s and suppliers
  • Possess significant commodity expertise (ideally indicated by category “certification”) to work knowledgeably and persuasively with suppliers, business line and engineering leadership
  • Ability to create and promote best in class category strategies by integrating market with DURA objectives to achieve collaborative supply chain performance 
  • Skills to analyze supplier financial information and determine manufacturing capability from go to the spot assessment
  • Manufacturing and Purchasing process expertise; coaching/mentoring skills
  • Commitment to the model of purchasing and experience working “up front” with suppliers to attain ideal value stream performance
