Duties and Responsibilities:
- Knowledgeable of Health and Safety reporting systems and audit regularly for accuracy of information and that the system is functioning properly
- Ensure up to date documentation including but not limited to; Standard Operating Procedures, investigations, policies etc
- Directly supervise the Health and Safety team as well as safety & Training personnel at the projects/sites
- Work within the operations group and all levels of supervision to develop and maintain a strong safety culture
- Build relationships with Government and Nongovernment agencies to promote Dumas Safety
- Oversee the Modular Training Programs to keep all training current
- Liaise with the client’s Safety & Management team and visit the sites regularly
- Develop and establish job procedures in conjunction with operational departmental personnel
- Develop Emergency Response plans at active project sites
- Oversee the Dumas Contracting Safety & Training programs for the Canadian Operational Sites
- Provide support and guidance to the various Joint Health and Safety Committees (JH&SCs) within the Dumas group
- Supply support and collaborate with International Projects & Senior Management Team.
- Conduct workplace inspections / audits
- Attend client group Safety Meetings at the sites
- Assist operational leadership with investigations
- Facilitate and coordinate Train-the-Trainer and Supervisory courses
- Liaise with various Safety Associations i.e. OMCSA, WSN, OMA, MTCU, MAMI, AMQ, etc.
- Support mine rescue program and training
- Facilitate safety awards when appropriate milestones are met
- Arrange for Advanced First Aid and Standard First Aid Training
- Liaise with vendors and suppliers, Ministry of Labour, Ontario Mine Rescue, WSIB and Municipal Fire Departments
- Establish a working relationship with client and other mines with respect to safety, training and emergency response
- Conduct information sessions (safety talks, staff meetings, etc.)
- Arrange for employee training
- Comply with and promote Dumas Safety Programs, procedures, and policies
- Stop & correct substandard acts or conditions
- Commending employee health & safety performance
- Advise workers of the existence of any potential or actual danger to health, safety, and the environment
- Take every precaution reasonable in the circumstances for the protection of a worker
- Work with new health and safety management software to ensure Supervisors and projects have the tools and resources necessary to work safely and effectively
- Facilitate annual safety summits with the safety team to evaluate performance, and plan to address current and future gaps
- Promote the IRS ensuring all workers are aware of their personal accountability to safety
- Assist in new project proposals, bids, or safety management documentation requirements.
- Communicate HSE semi-monthly and monthly performance report
Competencies, Skills & Knowledge:
- Post Secondary School Degree/Diploma in associated field or equivalent experience with a Minimum Grade 12
- Good understanding & working knowledge of the OH&SA and Regulations for Mines & Mining Plants, WHMIS & Loss Control Techniques
- Accreditation in the U/G Common Core, various mining specialties and the U/G Supervisory Common Core
- Accredited Safety Auditor (preferred)
- Canadian Registered Safety Professional (CRSP) designation preferred
- Minimum 10 years experience in U/G mining
- Minimum 10 years experience in a leadership role
- Minimum 10 years in Occupational Health & Safety Systems Management
- Familiarity with the various Common Core programs that are administered through the Ministry of Training, Colleges and Universities
