Position Summary:

Due to the enormous and rapid investments in growing our production capacity, optimizing our national Supply Chain and Logistics operations is one of the most-high profile and exciting challenges to solve at Dreyer’s Grand Ice Cream.


Reporting to the Head of US Operations with a dotted line to the CEO, this newly created Supply Chain Director role will have a significant opportunity to lead a cross functional group of people across DGIC.  This role will need strong people management capability, great collaboration, and ability to flex communication style across the various stakeholder groups. Given the critical nature of the role, the Supply Chain Director will have lots of access to DGIC and Global Froneri senior leaders.


The ideal location for this role is based out of our Ft. Wayne Indiana plant, however we are open to consider basing the role in a different plant for the right candidate (Laurel Maryland, Tulare California, or Bakersfield California). This role is approximately 50% travel.

Our ideal candidate can influence at all levels to bring people with them, has a proven track record of driving results in the complex US Supply Chain environment, and can flex between setting the vision and understanding the details to transform the end to end operation.

Role and Activity – Core accountabilities and Transformational Leadership

  • Develop 3rd Party Logistics Strategy – re-asses whole storage network, capabilities, and capacity of every transportation company, build relations, and create a Dreyer’s First transportation solution
  • Connect Logistics transformation activities with manufacturing capital projects to ensure both functions are aligned to meet evolving business demands
  • Simplify our current and future state. Work with the IS/IT transition team to support transition off of the Nestle systems to stand up our own IS/IT.
  • Build and develop a customer service team and planning functions with Ice Cream knowledge and factory, distribution limitations
  • Provide a visible presence in planning/supply chain on a daily basis so as to guide, coach, monitor and control the issues and activities and be accessible to all
  • Coordinate existing teams for improved ways of workings – deployment, transport utilization, stock volumes by locations.
  • Guide the organization proactively on Supply Chain and Logistics topics. Bring forward issues beyond forewarning on service (slow moving stock, inventories that the team can action on) – connect dots within the organization to highlight potential gaps.


Baseline responsibilities and mindset:

  • Hold Suppliers / Drivers accountable to results
  • To ensure our systems and teams are always organized and operating under discipline maintaining the system parameters and measuring stock and forecast to make sure our customers are supplied on time
  • Always conclude a solution of the root cause of an issue. And focus on quality, selling more and taking cost out
  • To measure weekly and monthly KPIs: production, stock, service (98.5%), forecast accuracy and report weekly in management meetings the USA supply chain KPI. Highlight and solve potential issues before they arise, e.g. capacity, line coverage
  • To manage, monitor and control costs so as to ensure that the supply chain department costs are within budgeted requirements
  • Review best practices across the logistics network and share to create a more connected organization, performing at high levels in the interim and future state.
  • Promote the Froneri culture of employees being owners rather than just employees
  • Other duties as assigned

Measurable Outcomes

  • Achieving Service Level of 98% throughout the year
  • Be the expert with Supply Chain & Logistics teams within all aspects and actions
  • Ensure clear priorities are set for the teams
  • Leading cost and inventory saving projects
  • Sales and marketing team provide promotions and forecasts in quantities not cash, and that accuracy of information is measured
  • No warehouse downtime due to non-delivery by supply chain team or vendors
  • Daily, weekly, monthly KPI’s targets are fully met
  • Reducing trend of rejections at customer and identifying root causes
  • Forecast accuracy above 75% on a rolling 4 weeks and 12 weeks basis
  • Weekly and monthly production plans are in line with national view
  • Systems in place for effective management of the supply chain transition
  • Multi skilled team in place
  • Meeting customer service levels – current and future state
  • Meeting targets on agreed time scales

Requirements, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Ability to travel to the three other factories and HQ as needed. This is an approximately 50% travel role
  • 7-10 years experience with progressive accountability in Transportation, Logistics, and/or supply chain, 5 years at the leadership level
  • Undergraduate degree or comparable experience and business acumen
  • Understanding of the complex US Supply Chain and Logistics Markets in a warehouse distribution model
  • Strong communication skills and ability to build and maintain relationships virtually and in person
  • Experience driving growth in a competitive business environment
  • Experiencing developing and managing teams
