In large or complex factories, the Electrical and Automation maintenance activities are removed as primary activities of the Electrical and Automation Engineer, and become the primary responsibilities of the Factory Electrical and Automation Technician.  This person is responsible for all aspects related to the on shift maintenance of Electrical and Automation according to DGIC corporate and local strategies, standards, specifications and local codes and regulations. 

This includes but not limited to the following:

  • Supports the calibration program on all instrumentation.
  • Supports the building management and security systems.
  • Supports supervisors in managing training needs: Delivering training on systems as necessary.
  • Works with others to development and maintain upkeep of preventative and predictive maintenance procedures in the systems and calibration areas.
  • Assists project engineers and others as assigned to test and evaluate equipment being considered for purchase and/or installed.
  • Hands-on problem-solving, analysis, troubleshooting, and maintenance that will improve reliability, productivity, and decrease downtime on existing or new equipment.
  • Serves as Location Back-up to the E&A Engineer during vacations and/or off-shift situations.
  • Serves on internal committees as necessary.
  • Will support maintenance function on an as-needed basis.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.
  • Supports and participates in all audits and compliance projects assigned.
  • Maintains optimum electrical and process control equipment facilities to meet the established objectives of the business
  • Ensures reliability of electrical, process control, and FAS/MES hardware and software operation
  • Maintains electrical/process control hardware & software to maintain plant at high level of efficiency, safety, quality, etc.
  • Maintains liaisons with other departments, disciplines and facilities to provide necessary support and maintenance for optimal factory operations
  • Provides technical direction, training and capability building of maintenance technicians
  • Comply with all safety and environmental regulations (Internal & External) and applicable DGIC standards


The Factory E&A Technician maintains the existing electrical infrastructure and automation applications. This means mastering the solution in place to be able to:

  • Provides automation, FAS/MES and factory support on assigned shift, including development of maintenance technicians’ capabilities
  • Ensures alignment of the process with the final customers in production
  • Conducts preventive maintenance on power distribution, automation and FAS/MES
  • Records all electrical power distribution and automation modifications and update the appropriate drawings as per factory specifications
  • Ensures process instruments are properly calibrated and functional
  • Performs troubleshooting in case of problems and ensure the PLC, HMI and FAS/MES applications are properly maintained
  • Maintains industrial applications and hardware in the automation layer
  • Strictly adhere to PLC and HMI change management policy/procedures
  • Maintains the reliability and the performance of the FAS/MES IT infrastructure and peer to peer networks
  • Closely coordinate with other functions, such as quality, safety, operations and production, with special emphasis on QMS, HAACP and calibration
  • In line with NCE, actively participate in DOR/WOR/MOR, GSTD and DMAIC activities
  • Develops themselves as an expert in their area of responsibility for a long-term support of the operation
