Software Developer (All Levels) – Creature Performance, Tools
At DNEG we are creating a team to push the boundaries of Creatures technology in Visual Effects and Feature Animation. Together with our artists we are sketching our vision of the future in Creatures and define the development that will turn such vision into a reality.
You will be a fundamental part of a multidisciplinary team working on frameworks, engines, tools and pipelines for Creatures’ animation rigs, simulation, animation, crowds and motion-capture.

As a Software Developer within the Creature Performance team you will be designing, developing and maintaining the tools that will be used by our artists to create animation rigs, set up muscles, cloth and hair simulation, interact with the creatures in the shot and define complex choreographies with multiple creatures. Your work will directly affect the performance of our creative departments, giving you the opportunity to talk to the artists and work with them to improve their user experience and efficiency.
We are looking for someone with a strong knowledge of Python programming and development of user interfaces. We want people with great communication skills capable of understanding the needs of artists and willing to iterate over their work to ensure requirements are met and artists are satisfied with their experience using the tools.
As well as demonstrating technical skill and initiative, your ability to communicate between technical developers and non-technical artists and end users will help you thrive in this role. We encourage a technically creative attitude and are looking for individuals who are willing and able to bring their own solutions and ideas to the table.
We follow Agile development methodologies and you will work closely with Product Owners and Stakeholders to understand artist needs and deliver bespoke software products. You will have influence in all aspects of the software development life-cycle; designing, supporting and maintaining software as well as integrating tools into our existing pipeline.

- Degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or relevant professional experience
- Programming experience with Python
- Experience designing user interfaces for creative users
- Experience developing tools with PySide
- Scripting experience for Maya or Houdini
Nice to have:
- C++ programming experience
- Basic user experience (UX) skills
