Position at DNEG

The Layout team at DNEG is a valued mix of technical and creative artists who continuously produce the highest level of work, sometimes under tight deadlines for large-scale work. The team is responsible for CG camera animation using cinematography principles, shot composition and character blocking. 

The department is in constant need of practical ways to solve the demands of each of the projects, having the need to develop new and different tools during production.

You will be working closely with the Head of Layout, supervising the technical development for the Layout department.

You would have access to produce shots as a layout artist, in order to have a first-hand understanding on the potential issues faced, depending on the needs of each of the shows.

The role will include showing leadership within the layout team from a technical perspective, supporting the Layout Supervisors and artists by understanding our best practices, improving efficiencies and liaising with the R&D and pipe framework teams, as well as other departments and sites, to achieve integration and best practice across the layout department globally.

Must Haves

  • 5+ years of industry experience in VFX, 3D Feature Animation, Video Games or any other related development environment.

  • Thorough understanding of post-production pipelines.

  • Good working knowledge of Maya. (Houdini and Nuke is a nice plus)

  • Experience in Python, MEL, Maya and Linux. (C++ is a good plus)

  • Experience in developing tools for DCC packages such as Maya. (Houdini is a nice plus)

  • Good understanding of practical cameras and camera techniques in a virtual environment.

  • Good creative and technical problem-solving skills.

  • Pro-active and good teamwork ethics, providing technical advice and support for artists.
