Position at DNEG

The Head of the Shoot Department is responsible for developing and supporting a consistent workflow ensuring the right tools and capture methodologies are being used to deliver a variety of work to the highest standard in an effective manner. You will be responsible for helping define these workflows and approaches to maximise efficiency. You will help design and set standards for the Shoot Processing Pipeline team to create the highest level of work in the most optimised manner. You will engage in the capture process with a positive & supportive attitude and can demonstrate an excellent eye for detail and ability to anticipate potential problems. 

Working alongside the other Head of Departments at DNEG, you are responsible for all communication on behalf of the Shoot team, being the point of contact for collaboration for all shows and implementing strategies to improve operational efficiency on an on-going basis. It involves workflows in the handing off assets between departments. 

DNEG is a truly international company working with one pipeline and one vision to provide the very best in visual effects by managing international communications across departments and shows. This is one of the key aspects of this role. Working closely with the other Head of Shoot counterparts in our other DNEG locations, you will contributes to planning the division of work between all sites to maximize resources and productivity. 

The Head of the Shoot Department is accountable for conducting probationary reviews, annual appraisals including salary discussions, performance management, succession planning, hiring, developing the team, and fulfilling their potential by providing mentorship and guidance. 

Must Have

  • Deep Understanding of Onset work within visual effects for high-end film and television.
  • Extensive experience in the VFX industry
  • Significant supervision and/or management experience in the VFX industry
  • Previous experience in line management
  • Must have extensive knowledge of onset capture work and data wrangling.
  • Must have extensive knowledge of data processing work and shoot hardware.
  • Demonstrates superb problem-solving skills and takes initiative to propose ideas and suggestions
  • Experienced in project management, able to prioritise tasks & time efficiently and can give accurate time estimates on work.
  • Experienced in Coaching & mentoring artists in new techniques and efficiencies.
  • Excellent technical skills
  • Talent to influence and build strong working relations within an organisation
  • Ability to understand the needs and demands of VFX Supervisors in a production driven environment 

Nice to Have

  • Previous knowledge of the DNEG processing pipeline
  • Experience in Lidar scanning and processing.
  • Maya and/or equivalent 3D software knowledge
  • Previous experience working in or with development teams
  • Software product ownership
