Overview

PEOPLE is seeking a news-savvy Freelance Weekend Programming Editor to help grow our expanding newsletter program as well as our programming and interactive surfaces on PEOPLE.com and the PEOPLE app. The role blends editorial judgment with audience development sensibilities and is critical to the weekend operations for PEOPLE.

Key Responsibilities

  • Write, build and deploy PEOPLE newsletters, including breaking news and app newsletters
  • Program the people.com and PEOPLE app homepage
  • Write and deploy notifications for PEOPLE content for the app push notifications, Apple News notifications, and browser notifications
  • Collaborate with the PEOPLE editorial teams to make sure news is getting promoted quickly and efficiently
  • Analyze analytics (real-time and historical) and report to programming and edit teams on how content is performing on programming channels
  • Fully manage weekend coverage for PEOPLE programming on your own on the weekends

Hours

  • Friday - Tuesday from 12 noon - 8 pm ET
  • Weekdays worked are open for discussion but you must be able to commit to working Saturdays and Sundays.

Qualifications

  • 1–3 years of experience in digital media, editorial or related field. Experience working in a newsroom or fast-paced news environment is a huge plus.
  • Experience working with marketing platforms such as Iterable, Braze, Salesforce
  • A strong command of entertainment and pop culture across TV, film, music, celebrity, internet culture, and lifestyle.
  • Proven writing and editing skills with the ability to produce crisp, engaging, error-free content.
  • Familiarity with analytics tools (e.g., Google Analytics, Chartbeat, Parsely, in-platform dashboards) and an ability to use insights to guide creative decisions.
  • Strong organizational skills and comfort managing multiple deadlines in a fast-paced environment. 
  • A playful editorial voice and a passion for crafting delightful user experiences.
