Paper Mill Operations Manager                                                      

 Position Summary:

Reporting to the General Manager, the Paper Mill Operations Manager is accountable for the safety, environmental, quality, productivity, talent and cost management in the operation group. The Operations Manager works with the Leadership Team to determine the actions needed to improve the culture and the results.

 Key Responsibilities:

  • Manage and actively develop the team, allowing them meeting the goals of the department and the Mill.
  • Set the performance expectations for the department and assist the superintendents in meeting their established goals. Drive performance in all areas and hold the departments accountable for delivering the results.
  • Develop, implement and follow mill safety, environmental, quality, productivity, talent and cost goals and action plans with the other managers.
  • Promote awareness through internal company memoranda, newsletters, meetings and specific training programs.
  • Ensure the quality of product leaving the mill meets or exceeds customer expectations through the consistent use of quality systems, operator training and auditing.
  • Develop a familiarity with the customer base and establish a relationship with the mill’s key customers and product line managers over time.
  • An embracing of high level in Reliability with planning & scheduling, essential care and condition monitoring is essential.
  • Responsible for succession and development planning for is department.
  • Coordinate and lead the annual and long term capital planning process.
  • The Paper Mill Operations manager is the General Management replacement during his absences.               

 Technical Competencies:                  

  • Bachelor’s Degree in paper, chemical or mechanical Engineering or a related field
  • 10+ years’ experience working in manufacturing, pulp & papermaking is strongly preferred
  • Exceptionally strong leadership skills
  • Strong MS Office skills required. SAP experience preferred.
  • Strong relationship and teamwork values
  • Strong coach and mentor, leading by example
  • Expert in Reliability and Continuous Improvement principles and techniques
  • Experience with Union environment
