Chief Engineer – Steam & Chemical Recovery

 

Domtar Inc., Specialty Papers Division, Espanola Operations is currently seeking a result driven individual to join our team. 

Located in the four-season outdoor paradise of Espanola Ontario, providing the amenities of an urban center while opening the gateway to outdoor adventure in North-eastern Ontario.

As an integrated mill, Espanola produces NBSK pulp and more than 300 different types of grades of paper. The Espanola mill's competitive difference is people. The successful candidate will ensure that health and safety considerations are paramount in the day-to-day execution of the job, showing by leadership to all Company employees the benefits of a healthy and safe workplace.  The successful candidate must demonstrate the ability to lead change including driving improvements toward a safe work culture. 

The successful candidate be on location at our Espanola Mill Pulp and Paper mill. The main mandate will be:

  • Responsible for the safe operation and maintaining the Recovery Boiler, Power Boilers, Turbine, Solid Fuel and Natural Gas systems. All Water Treatment system/Wastewater effluent in the chemical and steam recovery areas 
  • Responsible for all the Pressure Vessels throughout the Mill including Steam, Condensate and Air distribution piping system.

 

Your Responsibilities:

  • Uses the Domtar Set of Values to manage, organize, supervise and maintain all daily aspects of the Chemical Recovery, Steam Plant and biomass areas, within all safety and environmental requirements
  • Coordinates processes and maintenance to give maximum area uptime with the highest quality standards at a minimum
  • Coordinates Internal and External inspections on Boilers and all Pressure Vessels as per best practice and advisement
  • Creates, manages, and leads a proactive safety program in his/her area
  • Follows departmental safety plan and completes proactive risk assessments, hazops, tailgate safety talks with or through his/her
  • Responsible for the health and safety of his/her direct and indirect reports, including setting expectations, training, compliance audits, observations and
  • Directly manages the departmental Shift Engineers and indirectly the Assistant Operating Engineers.
  • Responsible to complete performance management on direct reports.
  • Responsible to set expectations, review performance and maintain accountability within the Operations department.
  • Manages the services portion of the facility (steam, water, air, power, and effluent treatment) to ensure the maximum earning potential of the Fibreline and Paper Mill are realized
  • Provide operational leadership for annual maintenance shutdown planning.
  • Manages communications and ensures compliance with Insurance Company’s policies, procedures, and recommendations.
  • Ensures applicable Company, Government, BLRBAC, TSSA policies and legislation are adhered to.
  • Accountable for the efficient and productive operation of the department in accordance with the Operating Engineers Act 2000 Chapter 16 & Regulations 219-01,220/01
  • Prepares operating budgets and initiates capital expenditure programs.
  • Manages cost control of operating budget.

 

Required Qualifications/Professional Experiences/Years of Experience/Education/Certifications:

  • A motivated self-starter with a First-Class Operating Engineers Certificate or Interprovincial Certificate transferable.
  • High leadership and supervisory skills including leadership experience in a unionized
  • Well-developed written and oral communication
  • Excellent comprehension of TSSA regulations and

 

Preferred Qualifications/Professional Experiences/Years of Experience:

  • Minimum 10-15 years of related experience in increasingly responsible jobs in steam plant/power boiler environment.
  • Liquor firing experience, enhanced by knowledge of kraft mill operations would be considered an asset.
