The Director, Consumer Insights will be a strategic leader and trusted advisor to the businesses. Reporting directly to the VP of Consumer Insights, you will be tasked with representing the voice of the consumer across the organization, identifying and driving consumer and market insights to guide strategic decision-making and strategy development. The person in this role will directly impact product innovation, testing, and launch marketing strategies & campaign optimization and must have deep experience in and mastery of qualitative and quantitative consumer methodologies as well as proficiency with syndicated and third-party data.

The ideal candidate will have a mix of CPG and DTC or agency experience, preferably within the beauty and/or personal grooming space. He or she must also be a natural coach and mentor, wired to support and empower early career researchers.


  • Design, manage and execute custom quantitative and qualitative research on multiple topics including, but not limited to consumer insights, product testing, seasonal planning and innovation, campaign optimization, etc.
  • Drive actionable recommendations grounded in consumer knowledge and informed by a broader understanding of the business
  • Partner with key business leaders to provide insight related to the drivers of business performance and provide strategic recommendations on how to move forward
  • Co-develop research best practices and processes to help guide the Insights Team and business leadership in identifying and prioritizing opportunities
  • Identify unmet consumer needs, market whitespace, and growth opportunities. Deliver strategic insights and recommendations for new products, new consumers, and/or new marketing positioning and communication
  • Set actionable goals for direct reports, aligned with our company goals;
  • Assess skills & help build career development plans for your team
  • Manage performance and monitor progress toward development goals for your team
  • Develop strong working partnerships with research vendors, driving value-added services as well as negotiating favourable contracts
  • Foster good working relationships both within the team and across the business
  • Bachelor’s Degree, Business, Market Research, Psychology or equivalent; Master’s degree preferred
  • 10-12 years of experience in Consumer Research Insights with progressive management experience with at least 5 years in CPG; Candidates with DTC and/or agency experience will also be considered.
  • Personal care/grooming category experience preferred
  • Strong analytical skills with deep experience in both qualitative and quantitative research methods
  • Ability to socialize results through holistic reporting and data-driven storytelling
  • Deep knowledge of research tools and methods, ability to effectively solve business problems through traditional as well as innovative research methods
  • Knowledge of advanced statistical techniques and proficiency in SPSS or other statistical software packages
  • Familiarity and comfort with third-party and syndicated sources such as IRI, NPD, Numerator, Euromonitor, Mintel, etc.)
  • Proficiency with programming surveys in Qualtrics, SurveyMonkey or similar platforms, is a plus
  • Demonstrated success collaborating, partnering and influencing at all levels and across all functions of an organization

  • Proven leadership in managing others in a fast-paced environment
  • Strong interpretive skills-ability to quickly understand data and draw conclusions

  • Experienced in collaborating with and supporting business teams (brand, product marketing, etc.)
