Description

The Banquet Captain will play a major role in ensuring a pleasant experience for Denver Museum of Nature & Science guests who attend catered events and other group affairs involving food and beverage service. The Banquet Captain will be responsible for leading the Banquet team in the execution of all assigned Banquet events at the Museum, ensuring the overall success of each event and the success of employees working those events.

Job Class: Full-Time
Hiring Range: $26.00/hour

Essential duties:

  • Reviews CAD’s (Catering Diagrams) and BEO’s (Banquet Event Order) with Banquet Manager to gain a complete understanding of event expectations in advance.
  • Inspects banquet areas (storage rooms, closets, private rooms) daily to make sure they all clean and organized.
  • Ensures servers are on-track in terms of time and set up.
  • Identifies any event issues before guest’s arrival. Inspects cleanliness of floor, linen, and chairs.
  • Works with Banquet Manager and Banquet Steward Supervisor to keep an updated liquor/equipment inventory in order to minimize rental needs.
  • Fills out event reports to pass the necessary post event information on to the banquet team.
  • In conjunction with Stewarding Supervisor is responsible for post event organization and cleanliness of catering storerooms, catering kitchens and liquor room.
  • Works with Banquet Manager to implement progressive training programs, through training sessions and during events.
  • Supervises all banquet service staff to ensure a clean and sanitary environment for all public areas of food service while ensuring total compliance with serve safe standards
  • Be available during events to ensure guests are well taken care from the beginning to the end of function.
  • Conducts pre-meals for each event and communicates properly to servers/bartenders.
  • Ensures Banquet event operations meet and exceed client expectations as evaluated by client feedback.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements:​

  • 1 years’ experience in banquets, catering events, or related food and beverage industry.
  • Ability to work mornings, evenings, weekends, and some holidays, as needed.
  • Ability to pass Serve Safe Certification within 30 days of hire.

Ideal candidate will: 

  • Be TIPS certified.
  • Have a high level of detail.
  • Be self-motivated.
  • Be able to provide excellent customer service, including the ability to be friendly and personable.
  • Have the ability to be on your feet for a long period of time.
  • Provides ongoing, hands on and leads by example training.
