Description

This position performs the preventive and corrective actions needed to maintain the building structure and systems, vehicles and equipment, grounds, parking garage and lots in order to provide a safe, attractive, environmentally controlled facility for guests, staff and collections. This position requires basic technical skills and problem solving, as well as the ability to operate under minimal supervision.

Hiring Range: $30/hour
Work Schedule: Four 10-hour shifts; 6:30am - 5pm Mon-Thur or Tues-Fri
Direct Reports: This position has no supervisory responsibilities    
  
  
Essential Duties  
  • Works on major-building systems: Mechanical, Electrical, Plumbing and the building structure.
  • Performs daily functional and safety checks on the above-referenced systems.
  • Inspects facilities and equipment to identify construction, maintenance, and repair needs.
  • Performs semi-skilled trades work in a variety of trades areas for construction, maintenance, and repair of facilities and equipment; including welding, carpentry, masonry, mechanical maintenance, minor electrical, minor plumbing, minor refrigeration and air conditioning, and painting, etc.
  • Under the guidance of the Building Operations Supervisor, this position may perform technical work of substantial intricacy.
  • Provides off hours on-call service as scheduled and emergency and snow removal services.
  • Assists independent contractors with services in the building and other departments with projects as needed.
  • Repairs and maintains Museum vehicles and motorized equipment as needed.
  • Computer and clerical work as needed, uses a computer to diagnose system problems.
  • Provides constructive input into work efficiencies, cost savings and process improvement.
  • Works as a member of a team and take initiative to work independently as needed.

Minimum Qualifications/Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent required.
  • 2 years’ experience in building trades or building maintenance required.
  • 2 years’ experience in the proper and safe use of a wide variety of hand and power tools required.
  • Current Colorado driver’s license and vehicle insurance required.
  • Evening/night/weekend and on-call work required.

Ideal Candidate Will Be/Have

  • Experience with skillsets in one or more of the following: Mechanical, electrical, plumbing (preferred)
  • Experience with Boiler Operations
  • Experience with HVAC water treatment systems
  • Experience with Building Automation Systems

Working Conditions

  • Exposure to moderate noise (business office with computers and printers, light traffic) and to loud noise (fans, boilers and chillers). Exposure to sufficient noise to cause the need to shout to be heard above ambient noise level.
  • Ability to climb ladders, stairs, scaffolding, ramps using feet and legs and/or hands and arms.
  • Ability to transport and climb ladders, and work from elevation.
  • Maintaining body equilibrium to prevent falling. Walking, standing or crouching on narrow, slippery, or erratically moving surfaces.
  • Ability to stand for extended periods of time, up to 75% of time.
  • Ability to walk from one work site to another, and can cover distances of 5 miles per day in the complex.
  • Visual acuity to work with machinery and tools.
  • Exerting up to 100 pounds of force occasionally, and/or up to 50 pounds of force frequently, and/or up to 20 pounds of force constantly to move objects.
  • Seasonal exposure to heat and cold is encountered when working outdoors. May be exposed to extreme heat (above 100 degrees) or cold (below 32 degrees) for periods of more than 1 hour.
  • Environmental hazardous conditions may be encountered working around machinery, electrical systems and chemicals. Use of Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) will be required.
  • Investigation of spaces that are not conditioned and may be confining. Ability to stoop, kneel or crawl to get into the space.
